throwback: RENE & ANGELA – “I’ll Be Good”

watch: BLACK ORPHEUS (1959)
just a clip from one of my favorite movies ever. i found it when i was 13 and i’ve loved it ever since. if i ever go to BRAZIL i will find kids just like this and make them re-inact this entire scene, sunrise and all. don’t you just want to squeeze the life out of that sassy cute little girl!
according to WIKIPEDIA:
“Black Orpheus (Portuguese: Orfeu Negro) is a 1959 film made in Brazil by French director Marcel Camus. It is based on the play Orfeu da Conceição by Vinicius de Moraes, which is an adaptation of the Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice, setting it in the modern context of a favela in Rio de Janeiro during the Carnaval. The film was an international co-production between production companies in Brazil, France and Italy.
The film is particularly renowned for its soundtrack by bossa nova legend Antonio Carlos Jobim, featuring songs such as “Manhã de Carnaval” (written by Luiz Bonfá) and “A felicidade” that were to become bossa nova classics.”

*the HOUSE OF NINJA came and did a vogue show, which i missed, but i spotted BENNY NINJA and took a picture. he coached and posed me, it was fun. some of you may remember him from AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL. WILLI NINJA, whom the house is named after, is LEGEND!

since we missed all the free food, we wandered over to THE SPOTTED PIG for some interesting cuisine. since we weren’t in the mood for PIGS EAR, we opted for simple salads and burgers.

after that, i took a nap and then got ready for the OPEN PARTY at SANTOS! it was a bit rainy, but i strapped on my boots and made it out. i didn’t get to take too many pictures since my camera died

rest in peace: DASH SNOW
so many things to say…
our friend and artist, DASH SNOW, passed away last night. he was was a photographer, graffiti artist (“SACER” of IRAK) + installation artist. his work ranged, but he might be best know for the Polaroids of himself and company participating in wild downtown antics and his collage art.
besides being a great artist, he was a good friend and an incredible spirit. DASH was kind and sweet. only 28, he leaves behind a 2 year old daughter named SECRET.
life: KATZ’S WITH LUPE – conversations on guns, poetry, and Bodacious the Bull.
on a cool JULY day, i met up with the homie WASALU aka LUPE at KATZ’s (New York’s Famous Delicatessen). it was a perfect day for hanging with a good friend in an iconic establishment…
*he made the “KATZ’S WALL OF FAME” wall! that’s like getting a key to the city, although i don’t know what receiving a key to the city really entails.

after, the BATTLE FOR THE CROWN EVENT i ran home to “spruce up”…which means, i splashed water on my tired face and drank a double espresso from my favorite cafe TARALUCCI AND VINO. it wasn’t easy on the tastebuds, but i hoped it would keep me going since i’d have to be at SANTOS for THE OPEN PARTY in 10 minutes and by the time i would be done — i would have officially been up for 23 hours straight.
