muse: DEEE-LITE and LADY MISS KIER

DEEE LITE

oh my. DEEE-LITES music makes me so happy. it brings me this feeling of NEW YORK CITY circa 1990…fresh, cool, dangerous, and creative. the years my older brother would travel 2 hours from ALBANY  to go to raves and parties where club kids lived. he’d come back and tell me stories and play mixtapes of the illest house music. i love this city now, but that era (pre-starbucks and high rises in the LES) seems LARGER THAN LIFE.

WILLIE NINJA + LADY MISS KIER

we are in strange times right now. times when a “musician” can become a “creative super star” with the help of a power team (stylist, choreographer, trainer, publicist, etc). when i was growing up, we had ARTISTS who were CREATIVE and made STATEMENTS. people who were interesting and different before their record deal.

“POWER OF LOVE” how brilliant was LADY MISS KIER! she was so ahead of her time.

For some reason, I saw her and thought she looks like Rachel McAdams (from Mean Girls). But very funky, none the less.
