throwback: GINUWINE – “So Anxious”
despite the fact that i hate purposely mispelled names, had an aversion to mainstream music and that i was in no way, shape or form in love with GINUWINE (because he looked just like my brother)…i was still a fan. his slow jams still bump on “quiet storm” nights.
behind the scenes: IFC’S “DINNER WITH THE BAND” – THEOPHILUS LONDON – VASHTIE (1.2010)
not sure if you guys got a chance to check the showing last night of IFC’s “DINNER WITH THE BAND” starring CHEF SAM MASON and THEOPHILUS LONDON and THE LOVERS. THEO asked me to be his special guest and help him cook some TRINI INSPIRED food…he performed some great songs and i got to eat. it was fun!

foto: HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM (and also to my fellow CANCERS!)
i know you’ll never read this because you don’t have a computer, internet or cell phone – BUT i’m taking you on your first (and long overdue) vacation, so we can sip pina coladas on a beach and flirt with boys.

random: SUNFLOWER SEEDS (PLAIN OR BBQ) ARE SO GOOD AND SO HOOD
my memories of sunflower seeds stretch back to being a youth in downtown albany. stopping at the bodega on my way to middle school and filling up on quarter waters, Doritoes, BBQ chips, and a pack of Sunflower Seeds. they were probably the most nutritious part of that so called breakfast. it was something we all did. spending the little money we had on empty calories…oh to be young again.
now every time i ride the train and see a pile of spat out seeds on the train floor, i get a nice nostalgic feeling – mixed with a nauseousness due to seeing re-gurgitated food on a public floor (eww).

do you guys have any good stories on sunflower seeds or what memories they muster up for you?

IFC’S DINNER WITH THE BAND PRESENTS SPECIAL GUESTS THEOPHILUS LONDON ON JUNE 29 AT 10:30PM ET/PT
Sam Mason Presents A Caribbean Themed Menu As THEOPHILUS LONDON Plays New Urban Pop Melodies In The Loft
06.23.2010 – The new IFC Original Series DINNER WITH THE BAND is the first cooking show to combine culinary delights, musical performances and conversations with select acclaimed indie music artists. DINNER WITH THE BAND debuts April 27 at 10:30 pm ET/PT in IFC’s Tuesday night AUTOMAT programming block, following two new back-to-back 15-minute episodes of FOOD PARTY.
In each of the 30-minute episodes, celebrated NYC rock-n-roll chef Sam Mason (Tailor, WD-50), invites a band over to his Brooklyn loft where he teaches them how to add his signature culinary spin to their favorite “on-tour” food. Throughout the show, Chef Mason and the artists converse on food, music and life while cooking together. After they “chow down” they “get down” as each act takes to the loft’s living room to play a rockin’ musical set.
On June 29, DINNER WITH THE BAND will feature special guest THEOPHILUS LONDON and he is ready to entertain Sam Mason and his friends with some of his new urban pop melodies, as well as dig into one of Sam’s specialty meals

On the menu: Sam has decided to use Theophilus’s Caribbean childhood as the inspiration for the menu. He’s making Calypso Porterhouse (porterhouse steak), Charming Callaloo (Callaloo salad) and Burning Cornbread (Cornbread with jerk seasoning and honey). Once the meal gets finished, Sam whips up the “Dark and Humdrum,” a ginger beer and rum cocktail.

After Theophilus helps Sam in the kitchen for a bit, he steps upstairs to rip out his songs, “Julia” and “Humdrum Town.”

life: VASHTIE AND THEOPHILUS LONDON IN MIAMI – WITH FRIEND JESSE BOYKINS III (6.10)
so, as some of you may know – i was just in MIAMI this past weekend with THEOPHILUS. i co-DJ’ed a party with him and then served as quasi-DJ for his show the next day. we hung out with WATTS, DANIELLE and JESSE BOYKINS III and had a swell time. i got to meet some amazing fans and catch some rays (but not to much bc sun exposure is no bueno).
video re-cap coming soon!!!

*thats the homie DJ LINDSEY in the new ELLE MAGAZINE! you go girl. it’s cool when i’m far from home and i see a familiar face in a magazine or on TV

*snack before the plane ride…

*this is either funny or degrading to women, i can’t tell.

*thanks to TUYET “JEN” PHAN for letting me borrow the camera while mine is in the shop!

*THEOPHILUS, ME and DANIELLE.

“fu*k a streetwear game, this the new shoe sh*t”

*anyone read that article in NYMAG? it is a bit craze.

*the sweet JESSE BOYKINS III was in da club. he’s a MIAMI native!

*the ol’ “GIRL ON GIRL, BUTT IN THE CROTCH” dance. it’s always a favorite of mine to watch because it’s so confusing, it’s a thought provoker.
+++++
the next day we chilled by the pool and then stumbled upon some GO-CARTS!!!

*GO CAR + HAIR = MESS.
+++++
later was THEO’s show at GRAND CENTRAL, which was a dope venue! i met a lot of super cool fans!
