I recently found this article as I was looking for something else, isn’t that just the way it is these days!
Anyways, it’s an astounding read. The writer juxtaposes the 90′s (also known as Prozac Nation) and how we were all depressed, apathetic and generally unhappy to our current age of anxiety, over-stimulation and xanax-addiciton.
It’s so fascinating how times have changed. The 90′s was really all about being depressed, apathetic, misguided; just look at the music of Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana and movies like Clerks and Reality Bites. That time doesn’t exist anymore. Now we’re all amped up, stressed out and stuck in a matrix where we’re reminded that the world is ending, our natural resources are depleting and inevitable war is pending. It’s no wonder why we are losing our minds.
I’m not advocating the use of drugs, but I did find this article extremely intriguing. The writer, Lisa Miller, even illustrates how “Benzos” as they’re referred to were born in America. Check it out if you have time and let me know what you think about it.

Well…That was definetly an interesting read. And VERY surprising that folks are struggling with anxiety the way they are and putting on a “too cool for school” and “in control” veneer. And here i am, (the fool!) using my fears and doubts as markers for self awareness and opportunities for growth. Why didnt someone tell me i was stuck in the 90′s!?! lol. All these years i could a been poppin pills and gettin shit done instead of questioning the meaning of life!. lol…
Good read tho…

I fond out it’s very normal in the US to take pills for whatever reasons , it’s pretty shocking to me as a European girl. And when I think how healthy the Japanese grow old I think the safer way is to avoid those pills!

Wow! Interesting read. Pill popping is something I have not thought about. It seems like some people are just taking them for anything. I mean the lady in the story went to her dieing mothers room to swipe some of her meds so that she could get to sleep. Well, maybe I shouldn’t use her as an example because her mom is dieing so I can see why she would have anxiety. I don’t understand that whole taking a pill for anxiety. I guess because I never have. But, I guess if some people need them, then they need them.
