Las Vegas 2008, The Wynn Hotel
I’ve been an insomniac since as far back as I can remember. I can recall being around 8 or 9 years old and my Mother barging into my room to only find me re-arranging it…at 2am. It’s been a burden, but the fact that it’s carried on with me for so long makes it nostalgic in some ways.
Solitude spent with yourself as the sleeping world rests is quite exciting and depressing. You can almost feel how limitless the universe is while being the seemingly only person to recognize it. At the same time, you’re contemplating every single issue that is happening or “could” happen. Over-thinking every problem, but imagining solutions. It’s a strange place to be…
What are the habits of an insomniac, you ask? Well, pre-cell phones with internet plans…it was being up late online on a computer. Maybe updating a page here, posting something there, searching for an old friend/bully or crush. On the rare and best of occasions, it would take me to my sketchbook. There I would write stream of consciousness paragraphs or draw the portraits of loved ones, while listening to a song that I was obsessed with at the moment.

Right now at this moment (because it will change), my insomniac habits are (in no specific order):
1. Listening to Gang Gang Dance’s “Adult Goth” on Repeat…like literally!
2. Online Shopping for Home Goods & Furnishings…

3. Searching My Junior High Bullies Online or Checking on My Friend’s Pages that have Kids…I usually go with the latter, I’m not completely a vengeful-maniac.

My Beautiful God-Baby Amaya! She’s getting so big!
What about you guys? Anyone else a night person like me? Don’t leave me hanging friends. If you are a recovering insomniac, share your remedies!

I’m watching movies, and trying to make sense of things I don’t take time out to think about during the traffic of the day.

I feel that…

Me personally I find myself watching the weirdest shows on TV … Like , “the worlds strictest parents” . I really like “married with children” and if a infomercial wit 70s soulful classics comes on I can sit and listen to that for however the length while jus on my computer browsing kicks and music.. One of the reasons I enjoy the night is because it’s a bit more peaceful and my thoughts are more settled. The toughest part is having to sleep for short amounts of time then being a little cranky but it’s cool, forever grateful. I like to let the moon and stars shine as my sun…

@ZT_88 I like that perspective. I couldn’t agree more with the short amount of sleep

i love how real your thoughts are ,and the fact we all deal in our way how we remedy or live throught these moment gives us our identity and quirks that either people love or hate us for

I wonder if ppl understand what it really means to be an insomniac. It’s not a natural habit but reoccurring and unmanaged most times.

I’m a slave to technology. Havin so much info at my fingertips on the web keeps me up for hours.

@ed real is the only way to be. it’s true, are flaws make us who we are.

@e$$y.colours my friends who don’t have the same issues have no idea what its like. just one of those things I guess…

The short amount of sleep is definitely the short end of the stick. I think I became used to it at an early age, lol.
I agree it is a lot more calm and serene at night. It’s a touch empowering almost like sitting on top of the world in a way.
It all started pre internet with surfing contest re-runs round 3 grade, then bet uncut around 5th grade (which had noticable affects lol), then sketchbooking and homework thru hs.
I guess it was only right choosing a major that’s renowned to bypass sleep lol.
Nowadays its homemade projects and typing essays on blogs lol… Married with Children was caught in the mix in there too!
…and I thought it was only me…

@Mike L haha you are not alone.

lil me spent hours on computer games like sims & reading
now its mostly eating, googling the most random things, watching the most random youtube videos, pointlessly refreshing social network pages, etc.
nothing productive. at all lol.

I feel you Vash. I’ve spent many a nights being an insomni-maniac. lol. Leaving the actual disorder of insomnia out of the equation and talkin about general restlessness here for this discussion, I think my thing in particular was that I had alot on my mind, and during the night when the world around me quieted down that’s when my subconscious thoughts ran rampant and made me restless. I haven’t been dealing with that as much lately because I’ve learned how to quiet down the “mind chatter” and have sum inner peace.
I do still have sum nights when I feel restless, but that’s when I know I have things I need to do and cannot rest til I do it, whether it’s an important task or when I feel my creative juices flowing.
All in all Vashtie, having restless nights is a sign that we have an inner “pull” that talks to us and says “there’s a reason why you are restless”.

i usually do art things, creep to the kitchen and hook up a plate while trying to not wake anyoneup, read, or surf the interwebs. Sometimes I have my “Drake” moments were i just think of sad lil memories and sob like a child. i hate those tho
December 28, 2012
not an insomniac, actually im a true morning person but i enjoy the night time cos ideas are flowing and creativity is on a different level. many times i find myself staying up late with my artistic hobbies. i hope u can turn ur sleeples state into a positive one xx

yess insomniac is thy’s middle name.
but its definitely not something I dislike. I find that I get my favorite things done – like doing art, finding new music, watching new movies, etc at that hour – and only then when doing so do I not feel guilty that i’m not doing schoolwork instead. It’s almost a “sleep is a waste of time” mentality. Cause if I could operate without sleep, I gladly would.

Great post. I enjoyed the Gang Gang Dance’s “Adult Goth” and the cute pictures. I am also an insomniac too. So many times I find myself up in the early morning still doing things. I am a social person and I like to have fun but also I like solitude. In that early morning when everyone is asleep is such a magical time. It is calm and serene and feels as though the world is a different place. A place where your dreams and ideas are true. So many thoughts come to me at that time. I can reflect in peace and in the calm coolness I can put together plans. I feel as though I can enjoy the earth the way it should be. It is beautiful. I like to stay up until the black outside the window turns to purple and the birds begin to chirp. Things I like to do are listening to music, what kind depends on my mood, writing down cool ideas and concepts, draw, contemplate, and eat. I sometimes watch movies and I have been known to You Tube binge from time to time. Lol.

I’m an insomniac at times. I usually do something that’s brain intensive, such as reading or writing until I fall asleep. The internet and music does not help. At all. For me at least.
December 31, 2012
insomniacs are fascinating. im sure its a matter of thinking so much.
me. its not the sleep. its the waking up. i could go to sleep and wake up at the same friggin time, 4:00 am.
the best part is that early morning. when that blue color cast is on everything. if u could bottle that up.

I pretty much forced myself into insomnia in high school. 40 hrs at school 30 hrs at work plus training for the Marines 2hr work out a day. Now i can literally go days without sleep but I’ll have a cranky hour every 5-6 hours
