A$AP Twelvyy, member of rap group A$AP Mob, has finally released his long awaited debut album after letting anticipation build for almost over 10 years. His debut studio album, 12 , is everything that we expected and more for those fans who love the old school, gritty New York style of rap.
The rapper’s first solo project was teased back in 2014, when ASAP Mob founder ASAP Yams announced Twelvyy had recorded the “best NY rap album [he’s] heard.”
It wasn’t until last month that fans received the album’s first single, “Strapped.” Since then,Twelvyy has released “Yea Yea Yea (Maps),” “Diamonds” featuring ASAP Rocky, “Periodic Table,” and, most recently, “Hop Out” with ASAP Ferg.
The album not only brings the typical beats and production from any member of the rap group A$AP Mob but it marks the first of three albums releasing from the group this month.
What makes this album such a gem is that Twelvyy has been quietly keeping his skills in the background as Rocky and Ferg took the front seat as the group’s stars.
12 shows us the skills that Twelvyy has took the years to master from his hooks to his word play on songs like “Riviera.”
“Im like Ali how I kick it/ I can’t believe how i did it/ My people preaching my scriptures/Im posing peace in my pictures.”
The album features Rocky,Ferg, Joey Bada$$, Flatbush Zombies, and more. 12 showcases where New York rap truly is right now.
Twelvyy does a good job making his sound mesh with his features. The Rocky collab “Diamonds” could pass as a new Rocky single, just as the club-ready Ferg collab “Hop Out.” With that being said, A$AP Twelvyy holds his own by not being out rapped by any of the other rappers.
He proves again and again that he can hold his own next to today’s greats, and sometimes ends up stealing the show. His hard hitting delivery and rhymes are sure to catch the ear of New York’s old heads in the game. Listen to 12 below.
