i’m a fairy godmother…
indeed. i met my bestie, LUZ TELLO, when we were at THE SCHOOL OF VISUAL ARTS. she was from SF and i thought she was the coolest and funniest thing ever. she was one of the few girlfriends i had and she really understood me and my weird self (i love
(throwback pic from the days of art school when we ate ramen noodles everyday and lived in the SVA dorms that were haunted and infested with roaches…the good ol’ days).
recently LUZ moved back to SF and had a baby and asked me to be the god-mama. over the weekend i went to visit SF for her double baptism of my god-baby AMAYA OLIVIA her cousin ANIAH YVONNE. did i mention how much i love SF and BERKLEY. it’s soooo cozy and chill there. if i had to move to cali, it would be there!
*VIP jet blue seats! row 1, holler. i flew with ERIK. he and his twin brother KARL JUSTIN are the god-fathers. they live in nyc, but are from out there too. me and ERIK had some good jokes on the plane!
*LUZ greeted ERIK and i with home-made cupcakes.

*KARL and ERIK shared some tales of fist-fighting bums in SF. they warned me that they were HELLA aggressive and not like the bums in NYC.
*we took the BART to LUZ’s crib. buying this ticket was so not user friendly, but the ride was nice and carpeted.
*KARL threw up “WEST SIDE” for the california poppy…which was planted everywhere.
*AMAYA OLIVIA. i cried when i saw her for the first time. i don’t know why…but being a girl makes you cry at things like that.

*at the church for the baptism and EXORCISM? yeah, they did one and poor KARL had to hold AMAYA for that part.

*LUZ made the cutest gifts. she’s super talented with things like that. she’s like the mexican peruvian MARTHA STEWART.
*”BABY NIKES ON HER FEET MAKES HER CIPHER COMPLETE”. i had to buy her some baby NIKES. they were too perfect for her.

*stopped at HUF on my last day and got a rad shirt.
well, i’m back home in the rotten apple. i had a nice weekend in the bay and had so many laughs my back and stomach hurt. til next time…
nice tatty…my days of working at tattoo shops
growing up in albany as a young tenderoni, i always managed to be out and about in my downtown hood while mom was working double shifts. at the age of 12 i wandered into a tattoo shop where the guys working
everyday afterschool, i’d run to the tattoo shop in my uniform where the guys would ask me “what did you learn today and i would re-tell lessons in social studies and chemistry. i spent 6 years of my life there, until i moved to the city at 18. BRUCE KAPLAN, the owner, was a real father figure in my life… guiding me through school, art, and life.
people were always confused about why i was in the shop and BRUCE would tell people i was his daughter. how’s this for interesting, he had a daughter a few years ago on my actual birthday (APRIL 23rd). he now owns a second shop in Westbury, Long Island called LARK TATTOO…where ELLE recently went for a tatty. although, if you want an appt with him he’s booked up through October.

*on our way out of ANGELS and KINGS we bumped into these guys who we had a brief chat with, ALIX and i forget the guys name but he’s in some band called COBRA STARSHIP. anyways, we all jumped into cabs and made it to the next spot…neither of us had realized until the next day that no one in our crew knew them. they turned out to be cool as a fan though.
FUTURE SHOCK the show…
here’s a clip from FUTURE SHOCK. it was JAMES BROWN’s own dancing show in the 70′s…it didn’t last long. the beats are sick and the dancers are dope and hilarious.

as my mom would say “ch-row back”, with her Trini accent. these guys were so dope.
remembering NIXZMARY BROWN.
not sure if you guys heard of this 7 year old girl who was murdered over 2 years ago in Brooklyn by her mother and step-father. this story made me so angry. read below:
“Brown was allegedly tortured and killed by her
Rodriguez was charged with second-degree murder, sexual abuse and child endangerment. He was convicted of first-degree manslaughter, among other charges, and faces up to 25 years in prison. Santiago was charged with second-degree murder and child endangerment. Each accused the other of inflicting the final, fatal blow. The indictment also alleged that Rodriguez abused the little girl for months and smashed her head against a bathtub”.
according to her stepfather, she was an “out of control troublemaker”. yeah dude, i can see how a 34 pound little kid needs to be beat to death to learn her lesson.
not sure if their sentence is enough. maybe they should have been laid out in front of army tanks.

*went to visit RUFFY, LOIC and PHILLIP. i don’t like little dogs at all. i love pit bulls, you know – the kind of dog that would eat a small dog. RUFFY on the other hand is medium sized, so he doesn’t count. also, i love him to death!
