When ALLURE MAGAZINE reached out and asked me to be apart of their feature, I literally jumped at the opportunity! I’m always  shocked that any big publication wants to work with me, but hey – who am I to argue?! The challenge of the spread was, various women styling one piece in their own way. The piece? I’m glad you asked! It was just some old FERRAGAMO…you know, straight off the runway! Anyways. This is when me, KARL JUSTIN (on Styling) & TAI LOTSON (on Makeup) all realized – that sometimes drooling over a runway piece is where you end your adoration. This peasant top, as gorgeous as it was, wasn’t meant for Miss Vashtie’s shape. BUT – in the end…we made it work!

I first tried the top with some baggy vintage jeans to give it a JANET JACKSON 90′s feel, but it didn’t work out.
Good thing I brought the back up of my Louis Vuitton Monogram jeans!

If you don’t know, newcomer JOEY BADA$$ is the talk of the town. Hailing from Brooklyn and with only 17 years of life on his resume, it is already being predicted that he will lead a future full of major achievements.
His presence could be likened to that of a musical messiah, as he parts the mainstream waves of formulaic hits that brag about the same old things. Having only been born in 1995, this young man manages to ooze a 90′s nostalgia that was once only available by listening to artists who made music during that era.
He’s bringing hope to all my jaded music loving elders and showing his generation that there’s more to music than Hublots and YOLO or whatever else people talk about in music these days…
Needless to say, I am so stoked to work with an artist like JOEY…especially at this interesting point in his life. What can I tell you about him? Well – he’s super sweet, hilarious and adorable (if you couldn’t see that for yourself already). At first glance, he appears to be like any 17 year old – except for the fact that most teenagers don’t possess a massive talent that has big wigs turning heads and taking notice. I can’t wait to watch the JOEY BADA$$ and PRO ERA CREW takeover. I’ll be front row and center, eating my organic popcorn and holding up supportive sign!
On the first day of shooting, we met JOEY BADA$$ at his high school in Brooklyn.
We were told we were not allowed to shoot on school property…
but…we worked around that.

Having the opportunity to work with the artists that I love and respect has been a huge blessing in my career, and working with BIG KRIT is definitely on my list as one of my favorite collaborations to date (if not the best).
When I got the email asking if I was interested in writing for BIG KRIT, I was already down. KRIT is one of those rarities in music today…someone who is not only talented and precise in their craft, but most of all someone who is true to who they are. There is no gimmick, no smoke screen, no false persona. BIG KRIT is genuine and real, something you don’t see often – especially in music.
When I heard “Boobie Miles” I was beyond inspired. I wanted to create a visual that paired with his lyrics, bridging the art of sport and music in a way that wouldn’t alienate people outside of either of those worlds. With KRIT’S words as my guide, the concept wrote itself.
The shoot was done in two parts (although it wasn’t planned that way). We shot with the Phantom camera which was pleasurable, yet painful…the technical side of things held up our schedule. The first day was estimated to be an average 12 hour shoot, but actually ran straight for 24 hours. It was the longest shoot I had been on – ever. Now that it’s finally polished and perfected, I am so ecstatic to share with you the final product.
Thanks to Datwon Thomas for this great opportunity!
I just shot a great spread with the folks at VIBEVIXEN.COM. Originally they asked for a swimwear spread, which made me cringe. I barely go to the beach in a bikini let alone pose in one. They bent the rules for me and asked me to do a “royal” theme, which seemed more up my alley!
