INTERVIEW: Surface To Air x Vashtie x Friday I’m In Love Playlist x Love Songs To Sweeten Your Weekend!
Thanks to my lovely friends Valentina Moreno and Pauline Wormser, over at Surface To Air, for asking me to be apart of their “Friday I’m In Love Feature”…where they asked me to put together 15 of my favorite love songs alongside a little interview (dropping next week).
For now, you can go to their BLOG and listen to my playlist. Let me know what you think. There’s a good range; from The Cure to Brandy to DMX to The Black Keys.
Refinery29 & Cole Haan asked me to share my Ultimate Late-Night LES Hot Spots since I represent the other 9 to 5, as in 9pm to 5am! In it I discuss 3 of my favorite venues, why I love them and what song I would play along to each. I also share some tips on New York City living.
Behind The Scenes Photos by Lindsey TJ Hall
If there’s any photographer you’ve seen at concerts in NYC over the past few years (primarily hip hop), it’s most likely been Brook Bobbins building up his portfolio and shooting for friends and famous artists alike. The Bronx bred photographer has a knack for connecting with artists and capturing special moments. Although he’s most known for the moments he captures on stage, his special relationship with many musicians allows him to freeze moments in time off the stage as well and share it with excited fans online. His website, who-shot-ya, has a plethora of photo galleries from 2010 until now. It might only be a few years, but the amount of shows and amazing shots he’s got is more than many others get in their lifetime.
A few months ago I linked up with Brook in back of the store Community 54 in L.E.S. to discuss everything from his start, the musicians and events he’s liked shooting the most, and more regarding his story. Press play above to watch and stay tuned for part two. Enjoy!

Special thanks to Dennis Todisco & Jasmine Imani for this amazing opportunity of modeling for Karmaloop’s Ladies Spring Collection! We shot in the freezing cold of February, but I was super down to have fun and get great shots. I zipped my mouth shut and kept my mind open to trying new things. Jasmine Imani styled it and since I loved her taste, it made my stubborn self open to going outside of my comfort zone.

So, Josh Madden is my creative soul mate. Whatever Josh puts me on to ends up being my new obsession and forever favorite. No lie, this dude not only knows everything rad, he just knows what everyone else will love. For example, the following are things he put me on to; Frank Ocean – Love, Zoo Kid (King Krule) – Obsessed, Lula’s Ice Cream – Weakness.
But, being the stubborn Taurus that I am…I’ve always mentally disagreed with anything people present to me as something or someone I love. When Josh told me, “Vashtie you will love Dana. You guys will totally get each other”. I thought, “We’ll see”.
I should have known better. I met Dana and automatically felt like we were little kids talking about art. She’s super rad. She has a line called DEERDANA and she makes these line drawn portraits of cultural impressarios and general awesome folks and prints them on shirts.
She’s been doing Q & A’s with friends who get to pick a shirt and are photographed in it. I was stoked when she asked me to be in it.
I had a hard time choosing between: Patti Smith, Yves Saint Laurent, Amare, Frida and Pablo Picasso. Then, by a stroke of luck, I found out she was making a Jeremy Lin shirt and that’s all she wrote! Just stay tuned for a collaboration between me and Miss Dana Veraldi!!!
Yes! Finally I made it into TIME OUT NEW YORK’S MOST STYLISH NEW YORKERS ISSUE!!!
I look weird, but what can you do!

Special thanks to KARMALOOP for adding me to their list of IKONS. I’m very honored to be amongst such creative figures. Check out my Holiday List, although – none of what I actually picked is up there. Not sure if that is a glitch or if they just decided thats what I should have picked – hahaha. It’s all dude gear, so it’s quite appropriate if you ask me.
“She telling me bout how “black people should enterprise” and I’m like “If you don’t get yo ass in this ride from enterprise…”
