When REFINERY29 asked to do an article on me, my place and 6-8 of my favorite looks – I was floored to say the least. REFINERY29 is one of the biggest, most popular and freshest fashion sites to date and they feature super fashionable folks – I am still shocked as to why they picked me, but I am so excited.

For my “looks”, I decided to dig into the abyss of a closet for items that I actually rarely or never wear. I’m a creature of habit and like wearing the same things everyday, but my closet is actually filled with some rad items that never see the light of day.

The shoot turned out amazing. Although, I was super hectic that day as I was also prepping for my big Trinidad trip with Jonathan Mannion. Special thanks to homies KARL JUSTIN and NATALIE LEVY for organizing my outfits, I was a busy wreck that day and without them I would have worn that Wu-Tang shirt for every picture.

While (yes) I am totally confused about the title “Hip Hop Princess” – what can you do? I’m still stoked on the spread!

In February, talented writer and Executive Editor of PAPER MAGAZINE – ALEXIS SWERDLOFF reached out to me regarding an article she would pen entirely on me for the NEW YORK TIMES. Me, being the pessimist that I am, literally believed this was a joke (even believing it could quite possibly turn out to be a “CARRIE”-esque joke where I’m made a fool and someone dumps pigs blood on me) – I know, I’m weird…I have issues.

Anyways, I sat with Alexis twice for the interview. She was great and it felt like I was chatting with an old chum when we spoke. Later, my photo was taken by BEATRICE DE GEA who is a spectacular and super accomplished photographer (you have to check out her work). By that point it started to dawn on me that this was, in fact, real.

Although, it just truly hit me now as I’m looking at the online version of the article right now (the print version is available tomorrow – BUY IT).

In this new age of NEW YORK CITY, I realize the youths are missing out on a lot of interesting people who helped to create the work of art that the rotten apple is. People who might not be known in the mainstream world, but people who have influenced the world at large in some capacity. I loved this interview and as someone who actually knows PETER OASIS, it “PUT ME ON” to a lot of information I did not know about him. I’m really excited to see where this series will head! It is a must hear.

First, I get named in their “BEST OF THE 2000′s x THE TOP 10 WOMENS STYLE TRENDS” under the category VINTAGE JEAN CUT OFF SHORTS (which properly comes from a southern gal named DAISY DUKE)…

Then, they let me have a section where I rate my top 50 sneakers of all time…

And now…I’m named in their category of “25 HOTTEST GIRLS OF 2010″?! Wow! I’m number 19 and I beat out Miley Cyrus!!! Thanks to COMPLEX for believing in such a geek like me!
