Say what?! I love ASOS and they just featured me in their STYLE SECTION from my visit to the Kenzo Pre-Fall Show in New York this week.
It was freezing, but somehow I managed to make it the grand presentation…half asleep (11am showing), but present for sure!
If you like what I’m wearing, ASOS also created the look for less via items from their major webstore.
PS: Thanks ASOS for making this fashion idiots day! Seriously though, who wears winter boots with Summer prints? I was too tired to think.
Seriously, Ebony Magazine has given a girl more love in the last year than she could ever have wished for during a lifetime. Special thanks to Ebony Mag and Writer Damonica Boone for supporting a fellow sistren (again). Peep all of my Beauty Secrets HERE. Or down below!
Vashtie Kola is a director, DJ, artist, designer and style icon. With so many titles under her belt, we can’t help but wonder how the Trinidadian beauty has the time to look so flawless. Lucky for us, she decided to spill her beauty secrets, as she shared go-to products for her skin, hair, and makeup, as well as how she keeps her curls healthy and under control during the winter.
“My go-to products for everything are always health-conscious, non-carcinogenic, vegan and cruelty free,” she says, “things that are important to me since I keep a vegan/raw diet and am a huge animal lover. I like to utilize the site www.ewg.org/skindeep to find out which products are good for you. Because keeping healthy on the inside is just as important as staying beautiful on the outside.”

On Hair Care
“For hair, I use Hugo & Debra Naturals Smooth and Defining Shampoo and Conditioner in Coconut. My family is from Trinidad, and coconut-scented anything always wins my island heart. For styling, I use Beautiful Curls Leave-In Conditioner for Wavy to Curly Hair. I love it because it keeps my curls looking shiny and healthy.”
On Skin Care
“For skin, I wash with Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint Castille Soap. I like the added chill the peppermint gives my skin. Makes me feel extra clean. I moisturize with Almond Oil by Now Foods, which keeps my ashiness in check. And anyone who knows me, knows I need that.
“For my face, I wash with Dr. Alkaitis Organic Purifying Facial Cleanser. Dr. Alkaitis is an organic and raw line of skincare that I am obsessed with, so clean and simple, you could eat it. If we are what we wear (and eat) then that is a relief. I follow with Luzern Laboratories Vita-O2 Glacial Toner and their Serum Absolut Radiance Skin Brightening Serum. This serum is hydroquinone-free and perfect for the woes of brown skin suffering from hyper-pigmentation.
“For around the eye, I use Dr. Alkaitis Organic Eye Creme and then finish with Dr. Alkaitis Organic Nourishing Treatment Oil during the day. At night, I will switch to Luzern Laboratories Force De Vie Pure Oxygen Creme Lux. I love Luzern Laboratories because, as well as being organic and free of toxins, it is also focused on anti-aging. And who couldn’t use a little of that?
“For my weekly masks, I use Dr. Alkaitis Organic Enzyme Exfoliating Mask followed by their Organic Cellular Repair Mask. They are amazing because they repair and exfoliate the skin using their basic ingredients of fruit and oats. One of the masks literally looks like a blueberry concoction on the face: beautifully purple and blue. I finish with Luzern Laboratories System O2 Infuse Mask, which leaves my face feeling clean, fresh and supple.”
On Her Favorite Makeup Products
“For makeup, I like to keep it simple. I use a powder foundation by Afterglow Cosmetics in the color Fawn. I smudge a little black eyeliner by Rejuva Minerals, and my under eye concealer is #44 by RMS Beauty. For lips, I keep them moist thanks to RMS Beauty Lip and Skin Balm in Simply Vanilla. I love these lines of makeup, because I believe whatever you put on your skin should nourish it, and all their ingredients are clean and healthy.”
On Keeping Her Curls Healthy in Harsh Weather
“The winter can take its toll on hair and skin, so to preserve my curls I do homemade hair masks. I keep it simple with an olive oil and coconut oil mask. Beauty blogger Michelle Phan has a great recipe.”
If I ever meet Missy, I might just bow down and kiss her hand. Her reign was too real. And Timbaland?! Like, what was in the Virginia water that had all these monsters coming out of there? Seriously, mad hit makers hail from that Southern state.
This song is giving me goosebumps and the video…ugh…the video. Hype Williams is the Music Video Master!
Brenmar & Vashtie (The Westway NYC, NYE ’14)
New Year’s Eve in New York City is always dreaded yet welcomed for me. The start of a new year is always amazing, it represents a new year to get it right or at least get it closer to right than the year before. Although, the night of NYE is dreaded because its always filled with chaos, traffic and lunatics running around. Previously, I spent NYE dining with friends at The Odeon (a New York City landmark)…as some of you may know from previous posts. This year I was asked to have my own soiree at The Westway. I’d never worked on NYE, but was down to try it for fun. It ended up being amazing!
After dinner, I jetted to the cliz-ub. On my way out the door, I met director John Waters who was also dining at The Odeon. I introduced myself and awkwardly let him know I was a fan. He was very kind to me.
Oh man, seeing this made me yearn to have been in New York and of age in the 90′s. Many of you may already know, I love Supreme as a brand and as a family (having worked for the incredible James Jebbia empire a while back). They were and still are the first of their kind, standing in a lane they created. Amazing.
This clip is extraordinary. New York in the 90′s?! Yes please. This was before the internet and everything ruined good things (as I say this on my blog on the internet). I mean that in the nicest way possible. The internet makes everything TOO accessible. Anyways, I digress. Watch this amazing clip and stay tuned for the Allure feat. Nas video right after – that was the jam.
What can I say, I kicked it with the fellas my whole life and a lot of my friends had babies in high school…so, I never attended a baby shower before. I had no idea what to expect, all I knew was that I was excited to be in the company of good friends and Sabel’s adorable expecting self! I mean, look at her – she looks stunning! I’m so happy for her and Chris. Ya’ll better go!
As we approached, 42nd Street was shut down. Apparently there was this insane fire and I believe there were some injured victims and maybe someone perished. It was a terrible and my sympathies go out to anyone who knows the victim or victims.
Yay! We love you Sabel. I am so honored to be apart of this friend community that will welcome your baby into the world! I can’t wait to meet Baby Boo.
Well, hello Seasonal Depression…meet James Blake. Now, I will never exit from under my covers.
Special thanks to Heineken and Team Epiphany for giving me a fancy shmancy 50 person dinner at the W Hotel in Union Square. Music was provided by DJ Clark Kent and Photography was taken by Mel D. Cole. It was a true family affair…
Sabel Boo & Baby Boo on the rise (sorry Razor Ramon), Amaris, Jasmine Solano and Christelle.
The night was a success and my peeps had a grand ole’ time.
Man, you’d think work would be quieting down as we near the holidays – but, absolutely not. Keep in mind that there are Holiday Dinners and Holiday Parties galore (which is work in itself to get dressed for, etc). But, when I heard about private Moet Rose party happening – there was no way I could turn it down or turn down when I got there.
It was my sister’s birthday, December 17th, and she came to visit me from Albany for the week (which I dubbed her birthday week). We went to a lovely dinner at The Standard Grill (my favorite) and then hopped in a cab through dirty slush to get to The Box for the soiree. It was black tie so we made sure to come correct; I was wearing my friend Yara’s line, Nomia, and my sister donned a seductive Aritzia number. Check it out…

Looking like the black Abba…Black Abba-tha.
Last weekend was Miami with the Revolt TV family and this previous weekend was Las Vegas with my Chloe Family. So much traveling in such a short time has left me in a whirlwind, but I cannot complain…in fact I’m loving it. Meeting so many incredible people and gaining so many different kinds of experiences has me hungry for more!
My weekend Vegas trip was spent DJ’ing at the Chloe Store in the Wynn Hotel. It was a pre-Celebration to the Chinese New Year…which I learned at the party is, The Year of The Horse (You know how I love horses and feel about Horse Carriages)!
So, if some of you may recall. I did a Birthday Party at The Wynn Hotel in 2008 and I was given free hotel rooms for me and my friends. My room was a massive space, complete with a massage room…because you absolutely need those. It was so big, I was afraid to sleep there alone – you know growing up in the hood and in New York City has left me mortified of space because I’ve never had it. The room I had this time around at the Wynn encore was perfect!
Lunch with Arnaud & Alex
After dinner drinks at Gold Spike (Arnaud)
It was SO nice to get off the strip. Vegas is cool for its casino and club culture, but its not really true Vegas…at least it’s not the local vibe. Gold Spike was full of interesting locals and (analog) games for people to play: Cornhole, Giant Jenga, etc. It was a highlight of the trip and I wish we had something like that here in NYC.Fun times with Friends!
The End <3
