Hey  Boo’s and Babes.
So, in the last few posts – you may have read that last year I put it into the universe that I wanted to travel more and here it is.
As you know, I’ve already been to Paris twice this year and soon it will be thrice…right after I hit London!!!
Yes…London!!! I haven’t been to London in 10 years and the first time I went was a Blur (like the British Band).
For all my British mates, I will be in LONDON from October 13th – 16th for some super secret work.
My homegirl Sharmadean Reid (Wah Nails) and I – plan on doing a party on the 15th and it would be bloody amazing to meet any of you guys while I’m there.
Then it’s back to PARIS from October 16th – 18th
I’ll keep you guys posted on anything I do that is open to the public so we can meet and take ‘grams!
Also, let me know what I should see and what I should do while I’m in both cities!
PS: Did I mention that my friends Angelo Baque and Shaniqwa Jarvis just also happen to be in London the same days I am and are heading to Paris the same day I am?! Totally unplanned and purely coincidental, but I can only take it as fate…a dangerous, fun-filled fate!
Can we all give a little bowing of heads for a moment. Whether you like Madonna or not, she has influenced music and those who followed after. I won’t name any names, but the biggest of them all have spent years being her understudy and have researched her moves only to spew out their water down version of her resume. Here, my friend Mykki Blanco gives thanks by making a cheeky video!
What can I say that hasn’t already been said, other than this is a terrible shame.
I don’t see this as solely a race issue, despite the fact that race has played a part…
I see this as the injustice that it is.
More than anything, a child was killed for walking down the street minding his own business.
He tried to “stand his ground” after a stranger followed him and he was killed.
If it was George Zimmerman in Trayvon’s shoes, I’d want justice for him also.
I just signed the NAACP PETITION to open a Civil Rights Case against George Zimmerman, if you would like to do the same you can click the link or CLICK THIS.
Haha, that unexpected pun of title made me pat myself on the back.
Anyways – let’s get to the point. Interracial couples and families are as old as the earth, I’ve done the research…ok fine, I haven’t. Maybe I’m just too liberal, because I find “Interracial Coupling and Families” to be a non-topic in the most respectful way. I mean, I don’t even use the term “interracial”- what is this, the 60′s? Most couples I know have different backgrounds. Love is Love! However, I know that in the media interracial dating/coupling/families are a non-topic in the most conservative of ways. Whether because major companies don’t care to recognize the future of the world, or that they are afraid to create waves in the advertising scene – Companies would rather cater to the status quo.
So, when I saw this commercial from Cheerios (General Mills)…I was elated! Not only is the little star of this commercial super cute you just want to bite her cheeks – but seeing this adorable “interracial family” made me happy. Some people have been angered by this commercial so much so that they took to the internet and comment section of YouTube to fire hatred, hateration and haterade. The comments in YouTube have since been disabled, but Ad Week spotted terms such as as “Nazis”, “troglodytes†and “racial genocideâ€.
I’d love to comment on that sort of thinking and behavior, but I don’t have time for such non-topics.
General Mills cereal brand has not been deterred and in fact, they stand by their ad.
Camille Gibson, Vice President of marketing for Cheerios, told Gawker in a statement,
“Consumers have responded positively to our new Cheerios ad. At Cheerios, we know there are many kinds of families and we celebrate them all.â€
Cheerios also thanked viewers for their support via Twitter.
I haven’t eaten boxed cereal in years, but I may just buy some Cheerios just to support their positivity.
I’m doing so much great stuff this weekend in DC. Check out the flyers below and maybe I’ll see you and maybe we’ll take pictures for Instagram. Let’s do that, shall we?
And please…SUGGEST SOME THINGS! What should I see? What should I eat (vegan/raw for me and non-vegan for my friends)? Oh yeah, did I mention that I’m bringing Elle, DJ Huggy Bear and Young Scoozle. AND…my friend Big K.R.I.T. will be there! Oh yeah.
I love being surrounded by so many creative friends. I’ve been knowing Shaniqwa, affectionately nicknamed Shaq, since 2002! Since then she has always been a beaming ray of light, full of fun and immeasurable laughs. She also happens to be an incredible photographer that has traveled the world to shoot everything from Supreme to Stussy to her own collection of personal bathroom portraiture. Check out her site…
Watch her excitement for her new site captured in a video interpretation…which I love!!!
Violette New York is dropping another collection & lookbook of Vintage pieces on Wednesday February 27th. This time, the collection is based solely around Metal and Concert Tees – something very dear to my heart. We teamed up with super talent Amanda Lopez once more and make up wiz Camille Thompson. It was an all-girl revue and lots of fun! I think you guys might dig the stuff. Stay tuned.
