Happy 47th Birthday to an icon and one of my personal idols, the late Nirvana rocker, Kurt Donald Cobain. Cobain’s hometown of Aberdeen, Washington is celebrating his birthday and legacy today by declaring February 20th as “Kurt Cobain Day.” This year also marks the 20th anniversary of Cobain’s death and Nirvana’s introduction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Kurt Cobain’s sign was a strong Pisces, Neptune. His water sign suggested “enormous wells of sensitivity, creativity, and longing to belong.”
May his creative spirit rest easy and continue to inspire many.
Thanks to Josh Madden for sending this out:
Capital Steez (Jamal Dewar) at Knitting Factory, April 2012
Earlier this morning I got the news that Rapper Capital Steez had passed away.
He was 19.
Capital Steez, known to us as Jamal, was a member of the Pro Era Crew and a best friend to band member Joey Bada$$.
He was extremely talented, but even more than that – he was a kind soul. I knew him briefly, but I always noticed how gentle his manner was in our exchanges.
I’m at a loss for words.
Rest in peace sweet boy…
Just heard the terrible news about BLAQUE member, NATINA REED, who was killed struck by a car and killed on Friday night in Georgia. It was just 1 day before her 33rd birthday. She was the protege of late rapper LEFT EYE.
You will be missed.
REST IN PEACE.
I loved these girls. Their whole utilitarian, futuristic look was two snaps and a twist”!
Here’s another great track and video, “BRING IT ALL TO ME” by BLAQUE.
Today is the day we honor MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. Its super awesome that some of us have the day off from work or school, but it would be even more awesome if you took some time to honor Dr. King in a way you see fit.
LIFE recently released some images taken by their photographer Henry Groskinsky who was on on assignment in Alabama the day Martin Luther King was shot. The images were lost and never published, until now. Groskinsky re-visits that eerie night.

I never knew HEAVY D, but memories of my younger days are lined by his music. Yet again, I’m sad…
“NUTTIN’ BUT LOVE”
“NOW THAT WE FOUND LOVE”
“IS IT GOOD TO YOU”
I’m a bit slow with my response to the passing of inventor and innovator STEVE JOBS. I can’t believe it…or, I don’t want to.
For the most part, I’ve been speechless…unsure of how I really feel. I’m overwhelmed with sadness – yes, but I’m also dumbfounded as I’m realizing how much one man changed the landscape of my life and the world at large.
My life, my work, my play…all of it revolves around his vision.
Sure – he made products for consumers, but those products are tools that have improved our way of life and thinking. Tools that have allowed me and countless others construct their dreams into real-time experiences. Those tools also inspired other creators, upping the ante and changing the technology and design game forever. We’ve all been impacted by this man, in some way, shape or form…whether we can identify that or not.

No, he isn’t a god and this isn’t worship…it’s just paying respect to a visionary who changed the world and inspired others to do the same with our fleeting time on earth.
Below are some of his most inspiring words Steve Jobs left us with, courtesy of LIFE+TIMES.COM:

I think the best way to honor this man’s life is to take time today for yourself and set your life goals…on paper (it will feel more like a contract this way – trust).
If you already have them, close your eyes and re-access them.
Then, plan out the steps that you need to take that will fulfill your vision…write them down.
After that…start and don’t look back!
