It’s hard to truly grasp that VEVO is 10 years old. If you’re like us, you spent your nights in bed watching video after video under the covers when you were supposed to be sleeping (no judgment.) Founded in 2009, VEVO which stands for ‘Video Evolution’ emerged during the impact of YouTube. With its launch in 2005, YouTube became an unstoppable force that began to make a negative impact on the music industry. To counter that, SME (Sony Music Entertainment) and UMG (Universal Music Group) joined forces to make the joint-venture, VEVO.
Originally designed to be a streaming service for music videos with the goal to attract more advertisers, VEVO became the platform to release newly released music videos from your favorite music artists. Described as “the world’s leading all-premium music video and entertainment platform,” with over 400,000 videos and about 25 billion views a month. VEVO makes a priority to provide top tier quality content, delivering videos in HD formats.
As of now, VEVO has begun to develop other forms of original content under their arsenal, such as providing exclusive interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and performances. One of their popular original series of late is DSCVR, which introduces emerging artists to a wider audience, setting these contemporary acts on visually stunning stages to make a memorable experience. VEVO is now available across other platforms such as YouTube, Apple TV, Roku, FireTV (Amazon) and much more. Here are a few of our favorite VEVO videos that Vashtie directed to watch as we celebrate 10 years!
