IF YOU DON’T KNOW, NOW YOU KNOW: Lupita/Rihanna Movie, #Ctrl, and More

1. Twitter has made a fantasy become reality with a movie starring Lupita Nyong’o and Rihanna.

It all started with a Tumblr post from two years ago of Rihanna and Lupita at a Miu Miu fashion show in 2014.
The post went viral and then made its way to Twitter in April of this year where one user tweeted a clear description of the two A-Listers.

Of course, it went viral with users tagging Lupita, Rihanna, Issa Rae, and Ava DuVernay.  Lupita and Rihanna will star in the moive, Issa Rae will write the script and Ava DuVernay will direct. The idea was so great that Netflix has picked it up. Rae’s representatives confirmed that the project is in the works.

2. No more NERD?

Chad Hugo, 1/2 of NERD, sent Hip-Hop twitter into a frenzy earlier last week with a tweet that could’ve ended their reign.

It reads, “It’s official. I resign from the music business. Thanks again, people, for your support throughout all these years. Good luck/God bless!”

*Scratches head* so what does this mean for Neptunes fans? Absolutely nothing! Since deleting the tweet, Chad has reached out to confirm that his tweet was just a bad joke and that N.E.R.D is here to stay.

3. Fenty released the long awaited Jelly slides.

Back in the day everyone had a pair of Jelly shoes. They weren’t the most comfortable shoe but they were cool nonetheless. Luckily for us 90’s kids, Rihanna and Puma have brought back the shoe in the form of slides. The Fenty Jelly slide released on May 25th at $90 per pair as a continuation of Rihanna’s collaboration with Puma.
With the popularity of slides continuing to grow, these released just in time to be a summer favorite.

4. “The Get Down” on Netflix gets cancelled.

After just one season, Netflix has chosen to cancel “The Get Down” due to behind the scenes trouble and poor numbers when compared to other Netflix shows. “The Get Down” premiered in two parts with little fan response. The first half only brought in 3.2 million streams in the first 31 days which is only one fifth of what season four of “Orange is the New Black” did in its first 31 days.  It should also be noted that “The Get Down” was the most expensive original series costing $120 million to produce. Too bad though because the show wasn’t bad at all and now we will never know what is to come of Zeke and his friends or Mylene’s disco career.

5. SZA’s debut album, CTRL, is set to release 6.9.17.

Ctrl 6.9.17

A post shared by SZA (@sza) on

The great SZA announced the release of her long awaited debut album, Ctrl, last Wednesday. The announcement came via twitter when TDE CEO posted a video of SZA lounging by a pile of computer monitors. The video featured Wu Tang member, RZA, giving his blessings to the singer.

SZA also went on to post three different videos via Instagram from the same shoot with the same voiceover.  This long awaited album should be nothing less than great as SZA fans have been waiting forever for it and were only given little snippets of the star with the release of some hit singles this year including “Love Galore” ft. Travis Scott and “Drew Barrymore”. Check out the “Love Galore” video while you await June 9th.
