Last year “Boo’d Up” by Ella Mai was the summer anthem, this year Dutch singer Nicole Bus is giving us another summer in love anthem with her new single “You”.
Just like you, I have never heard of Nicole Bus before, but I’m glad I discovered her. Nicole singed when she was a little girl at a local church. From there she learned how to make beats and write her own songs. She studied at the Conservatory of Amsterdam where she perfected her craft. She soon found opportunities all around the world. In 2013, she was a part of The Voice of Holland; she emerged as a quarter-finalist. After winning another music competition, she met producer Needlz who has produced for Drake, Cardi B and, 50 Cent. Roc Nation heard a snippet of “You” on Needlz Instagram and reached out immediately. Now signed to Roc Nation Nicole dove straight into making music for 2018 which resulted in “You”. Some say her voice is a mix between Teyana Taylor and Jazmine Sullivan and we agree. She stated in an interview with WDKX 103.9 the song serves as an ode to black men everywhere.
“In the media, the profile of Black males is negative. In the heavy times, we’re going through right now, we don’t have an encouraging song about the beauty, strength, and intelligence of our black men. I decided to write one. I thought it would be cool to turn it around to make a love story about this subject. The “C.R.E.A.M” sample felt so perfect. It’s a very beautiful dedication to boost character and morale and share love instead of all this negativity.” Yassss girl I hear that!
We are confident Nicole will do great things in this industry and this is not the last we will hear from her. Watch the video for her single “You” below.
