This past weekend we celebrated Tupac’s birthday. We posted old photos of him on our Instagrams, blasted his music loud on the way to the function and filled our twitter with quotes he may have not said, but hey, it was his birthday. Along with the celebration, the long awaited (maybe not) All Eyez On Me movie made it’s debut to theaters allowing the biopic to retell his story. It’s safe to say many were not too impressed with the outcome including Jada Pinkett Smith.
Pinkett Smith took her twitter to express her feelings about the biopic stating that it is full of lies. “Forgive me… my relationship to Pac is too precious to me for the scenes in All Eyez On Me to stand as truth,”Pinkett Smith said on twitter. She continued to say, “Pac never read me that poem. I didn’t know that poem existed until it was printed in his book. Pac never said goodbye to me before leaving for LA. He had to leave abruptly and it wasn’t to pursue his career. I’ve never been to any of Pac’s shows by his request. We never had an argument backstage. The reimagining of my relationship to Pac has been deeply hurtful.”
While she and many others were deeply hurt by the biopic, others took to Rotten Tomatoes to disagree. “It’s a relatively straightforward biopic using conventional framing devices (including the liberal use of flashbacks) to tell the story of an extraordinary artist who overcame tremendous odds to become an American icon,” says Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times. Among many others agreed that the movie caught the gist of it and that’s all that really matters.
In all, we will leave the voting up to you. Tweet us at @VashtieDotCom your opinions of All Eyez On Me.
