are you guys into that whole TWILIGHT thing? i’m so new to this whole movement.

up until 2 months ago i thought TWILIGHT was a television show. then recently, i found out that 3 of my very dear friends love the TWILIGHT series/books. they begged me to watch it and handed me the DVD to part 1. although i have not one bit of interest in TWILIGHT and i am generally the ANTI-GIRL to things like that, i was open on my friends behalf — hoping i could be able to “get it” and converse with my friends on that level.

well…

i watched it.

and…

the cinematography was excellent and i get it. love stories that are so passionate are always winners, BUT…

i wasn’t into it. in fact, i laughed throughout the whole entire thing.

i was disappointed because i knew my friends would be disappointed, but i was also super relieved as if i had just tried crack and didn’t get addicted and beat the odds that everyone else fails.

about a year ago, while i was visiting update ALBANY for the holidays – i ran into an old high school chum, MIA. she informed me that she had been working for an organization that deals with informing people of the everyday household name brand products we use that are carcinogenic (AKA “cancer causing”).

it’s shocking to find out what products we use and have used on a daily basis that could be contributing to life-threating illness in the long-run – everything from saline solution to moisturizer. trusted name brands that have been around for generations…you’d be surprised!

better safe than sorry. since coming across the website and massive database, i use it often. and since sharing is caring, you should click below in case you’re curious about the things you use.

…it would be bad-ass if it were something explicit and R-RATED, like me round house kicking a polar bear or robbing a bank — NO. the video found is far worse.

it is my first film…EVER! (so embarrassing)

in high school i saved up from my many jobs and purchased a video camera. i was positive it would help me become a better director/documentarian. turns out, i mostly shot my friends and their wild antics – which was easy because they were wild suburban white boys.

since i was shunned from all my black friends for being “too weird” in my neighborhood (well, except LA’KEA…she was the only one who accepted me) i had been made an honorary member of a white boy crew of friends whom i met when they would BMX and skateboard in my downtown area. oddly enough they were the only ones who “got me” and after leaving them to move to new york city, i was always surprised to make a good friend who wasn’t an extreme sporting white boy!

recently, i’ve been stumbling upon these tapes and i decided i needed to transfer them as digital files to have on my computer…

one of the tapes held footage from THE FIRST AND ONLY FILM I MADE AS A TEEN, which i made for SPANISH CLASS. my teacher had given us the option of WRITING A PAPER or MAKING A FILM. i though “duh” and picked the latter (thinking it was the easier thing to make)…

i, of course, waited until two days before to make the piece. which explains why it’s so horribly done. i asked my friends to help and they did just that. at the time of being care-free high school kids, we thought it would be funny to make our “SPANISH SPEAKING” as bad as possible.

this might be the most terribly put-to-gether piece of anything i’ve seen in my life.

i might eventually share it with the world when i muster up the courage. for now, here are some stills.

the story was about an innocent school girl that meets the wrong group of kids, OD’s on drugs and then finds real friends that don’t expect her to be anything but herself. since me and my friends were STRAIGHT EDGE we had a lot of fun with playing “drug addicted characters”

a couple weeks ago, KARL JUSTIN set out to find himself a SIAMESE KITTY – whom he would name TOFU. after researching RESCUE ORGANIZATIONS, he found a 3 year old currently named SEBASTIEN in TRENTON. we rented a ZIPCAR and set out to TRENTON. on our ride there, we concocted horror stories of what we thought we would encounter…stories that ranged from psycho cat owning people to sex offenders waiting to happen, it was all funny – but as it turned out…

his foster parents were the sweetest people on earth (well, at least in TRENTON) and made us a home-made dinner and shared great stories about their high school love and their obsession with all things BARRY MANILOW.

HARVEY PEKAR (October 8, 1939 – July 12, 2010), born in Cleveland Ohio was an American underground comic book writer best known for his autobiographical “American Splendor” series. In 2003, the series inspired a critically acclaimed film adaptation of the same name…

American Splendor is the story of a little-known working-class everyman, and first-class curmudgeon, Harvey Pekar…

In the late 1980s, Pekar’s comic book success led to eight guest appearances on Late Night with David Letterman. His confrontational style and overt on-air criticism of General Electric (which owned NBC) led to the show banning him as a guest until the early 1990s.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY said:
Harvey Pekar was one of the most important, idiosyncratic, and eccentric writers that the comics medium has ever produced. He ushered in a new age of autobiographical realism to comic books and graphic novels, writing scripts that were illustrated by artists such as R.
