i grew up with a brother who was 8 years older than me…he was a gay, sci-fi nerd, and loved anything that involved “powers” or “alternate universes”. he also convinced me at age 7 i had my own powers and could control nature. it worked for about one summer, and i stopped believing it when i couldn’t stop the fall season from happening.

i still wanted to be just like him and liked everything he liked. i hate remakes, because they usually fall far from the tree. BUT, this TRON looks amazing. i’m super stoked about it.

LUPE gave me a call on wednesday and invited by to come watch “SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT” – the doc filmed while he and a team of other famous folks who climbed MOUNT KILIMANJARO in January 2010 to bring clean water to the locals. started as a lone mission by KENNA, the group slowly grew to the likes of JESSICA BIEL, EMILE HIRSCH, LUPE, SANTIGOLD and more.

to see these people who are in very fortunate places not just giving money to charity and taking photos at a red carpet to garner attention for a cause (which is still commendable), but rather spending 8 days in harsh weather conditions and dangerous altitudes to really further a special cause is remarkable. bravo to these guys!

i was very honored to be able to get a sneak peak and cannot wait for you all to see what these folks have done for people in serious need. with ELLE on one side of me and LOIC on the other, i was in good company!

a third grade DC teacher found a carefully written 90 point list of all the different kinds of bitches on her classroom floor and immediately recognized it for the gem it is! reading this list made me giggle and i hope the kids that put this together were laughing while compiling as well.

(my life couldn’t be anymore random, but exciting nonetheless).

for most, SUNDAY nights are best spent at home. but, for local NEW YORKERS – partying is best done on non-weekend days. weekend days are loved by non-locals who come to the city and wreck havoc. they love places that have bottle service, velvet ropes and doormen with more issues than the OPRAH show. i’m not saying that ALL non-locals are bad people, because they aren’t…just the loud, ready to fight for no reason ones. just being honest

anyways. sunday night i visited WOODROW’s party at HOME SWEET HOME with OSCAR and STEPHEN. got a text from LUPE who just landed and was interested in hanging out. we met him at THE COFFEE SHOP (where i worked when i was at The School Of Visual Arts and just never went back one day because i hated it so much).

here’s how it went…

somehow after dinner the plan was GOLD BAR. i was apprehensive becuase i don’t do well at that place due to a previous altercation, but OSAR was down so we went…

*they inspect you like you’re coming to ELLIS ISLAND. it’s hilarious though and being with these guys made it funnier because they all had no ego and a great sense of humor. very rare!

*midnight marauding mountain climbers. KENNA, LUPE and EMILE HIRSCH

*we had fun with all the “extra-ness” around us and decided to have fun and imitate it….standing on couches and singing along to…to…? actually, i had no idea what the DJ was playing. i’m out of touch with new music, due to apathetic tendencies.

ok, despite my masculinity – i have female parts and that means i am more than partial to the movie “THE NOTEBOOK”. i spotted mister RYAN GOSLING via STYLE.COM, sitting courtside at a LAKERS GAME?! he should be a KNICKS fan, despite the fact that they have sucked for the entire duration of my life. also, i’m not sure why him being an LA LAKER fan makes him ANTI-NEW YORK/KNICKS, but i didn’t make the rules. maybe i just wanted to blog about “THE NOTEBOOK” it makes me sob to the point that i need to be consoled (and i don’t like people touching me in normal life).

AND…i just found this out, but am i the only one completely sad that he and ALLIE HAMILTON (RACHEL MCADAMS) are no longer the item we wanted them to be? what is the world coming to?!

i ordered CITIKITTY, this PURR-FECT product (haha) that trains your kitty to use the toilet with a litter tray that sits in your toilet. week after week, you remove a perforated ring until the tray is no longer needed. within weeks, he went from a litter box (gross) to the toilet (yay). he also keeps the seat down, because he’s a gentleman.

*he had an accident once on one of my favorite pillows, which was not really his fault since the bathroom door was closed and when i sleep i throw my pillows on the floor because i just hate when my neck is propped up too high.

happy PURIM to my JEW BOO’S! the holiday that commemorates the deliverance of the JEWISH people form the PERSIAN EMPIRE. i was first told about this holiday by some ISRAELI friends in art school at SVA. apparently, my name VASHTIE is related to QUEEN VASHTI who can be found in the BOOK OF ESTHER in the bible – although, i am not named after her.

as the story goes (or how it’s usually interpreted) QUEEN VASHTI was married to KING AHASUERUS (king of PERSIA) and he liked to show off her beauty to the people. one night he called for her to show her beauty (naked), she declined and he replaced her with QUEEN ESTHER.

to some she is a HEROINE and to others she is just the trailer before QUEEN ESTHER came in and stole the show.

KING SOLOMON, my jewish hubby, just reminded me! he got that nickname of “husband” because when i lived with his best friend KUNLE, he would come over and order me around to make him food or get him a beverage! those were the days!

ANGELO used to call me PONY BOY when i went through my 50’s greaser boy phase in 2000…vintage WRANGLERS, white tee and rolled up sleeve. this movie was great. MATT DILLON lives in my hood, i always see him at my cafe and i want to high five him for this movie (but, smack him for “CRASH”).

when JOHN GOTTY at the SMOKING SECTION asked little ol’ me to compile a list of favorite tracks that i have on my ipod, i didn’t hesitate. little did i know i would spend the next couple days stressed over how to narrow my favorites down to 10…so i went with 15 (even that was difficult!). i mean – how does a parent choose their favorite child (if none of their names are VASHTIE)…it’s impossible!
