Master P: The Man, The Myth, The Legend

It’s not often we have the opportunity to walk among icons as many–sadly–meet their maker prior to gaining recognition for their accomplishments.

Fortunately, Master P–one of hip hop’s major moguls–is still making us say “ughhh” and encouraging today’s youth and future entrepreneurs to follow in his rather large footsteps. If you’re not familiar with the “ughhh” reference above, peep the video below, it’s awesome I promise.

With a resurgence of artists coming out of the New Orleans area, we feel it’s important to reflect on one of NOLA’s most memorable players in the rap game. Master P, formerly known as Percy Miller, and professionally acknowledged as P. Miller, grew to popularity in the ’90s with the success of the hip hop group TRU and the rise of No Limit Records.

To date, his most popular album is MP Da Last Don, which was produced in conjunction with his slightly less well-known film MP Da Last Don. Notice the Cartier shades. Look familiar? Just speculation, but a few of today’s hottest rappers have brought these vintage frames back out–igniting a resurgence in their popularity.

There’s no denying that Master P developed a brand for himself early on and quickly set an example with his characteristically garish album covers, and opulent fashion choices. Needless to say, the game loved Master P.

For your reference, we’ve curated a list of some of his most memorable bangers below:

Master P has come a long way since then, establishing himself as a reputable businessman, founder of P. Miller Enterprises, New No Limit, and also an investor, actor, author, and philanthropist.
