The Brooklyn born and bred rapper, Oyabun is on the come up. The New York native moved to Miami for school, and became more involved in their underground scene. Being inspired by the world around him, Oyabun is able fuse a New York and South Florida sound to create his own authentic style. Recently he’s come back to the city, and we can wait to see where he goes now that he’s back in his home base.
In the beginning of the year Oyabun released his first full project, Retrograde, a 4 track EP. Oyabun told Revolt.TV in an interview, “Retrograde was like a prelude to the rest of the music I want to put out this year.” He perfectly describes it as, “A period of change,” which I think fits well. Each song on the EP has its own character that meld together to create this coherent project, which you can check out below.
Then to end January off right he released the visual for, “Mona Lisa,” a single he dropped spring 2016. The self-directed crime packed video, paired with the well guided blue and gold color scheme, all tie so well together with his persona. Oyabun told The FADER, “Mona Lisa was created on experimental flows and eclectic instrumentation. My goal was to really paint a picture of my modern day Mona Lisa.” He definitely did this with the visuals as well.
Oyabun isn’t going to stop releasing music anytime soon. In preparation for his forthcoming EP, LVRBOY, Oyabun will be dropping his first single “Cobain,” this month. As the beat starts to flow Oyabun sings an unforgettable hook. He continues to rap using his own cultivated style. This is one song you don’t want to miss out on, make sure you catch it on Soundcloud February 20th.
You definitely want to follow this artist on his rise to the top. If the beginning of the year says anything for how Oyabun will spend the rest of 2017, I’m excited. Oyabun has been putting in work, and I can’t wait to see what comes from it.
