On Tuesday, Nov. 29, Footwear News hosted it’s 216 Achievement Awards in New York, honoring the best and the brightest in the industry. This included Rihanna‘s Fenty Puma Creeper, the Shoe of the Year winner. How exactly do you catapult a sneaker to cult status? Well, if you’re Rihanna, you simply position yourself as the shoe’s very own poster girl.
As the face of her signature Fenty Puma Creepers campaign, the singer propelled her goth-inspired trainer to the top of wish lists for both sneakerheads and industry insiders alike, all of whom clamored for a pair of the party-kid, snub-nosed flatform shoe. It was Rihanna who wore it best, though, working it into her sexy tomboy wardrobe in endless ways: She’d pair the shoe with skinny jeans and an oversize bomber jacket for a cool, off-duty effect, or ground a frothy Adam Selman dress with its chunky sole.
It’s no wonder then that her Creeper won this year’s Footwear News Shoe of the Year, an award Rihanna proudly accepted last night.
