so, i bumped into A-RON the DOWNTOWN DON and WEIRDO DAVE in my hood a few days ago. we had a brief conversation about the scene and what not. he asked me what NEW music i’ve been listening to.
it took me a minute to think because i’ve only been listening to old albums (THE SMITHS, DEEE-LITE, BIGGIE, NAS, DEPECHE MODE, etc) not because i’m “too cool”, but because i’m a dinosaur and haven’t accepted that it’s 2009. then i thought about “NEW” and it hit me…
yes.

he’s got this cool black MORRISSEY thing going on…with a mix of Brooklyn hood kid. anyone that finds inspiration outside of current pop trends is cool as a cucumber to me. i so love THE SMITHS too.
his mixtape, titled “THIS CHARMING MIXTAPE” is a cute take on THE SMITHS track “THIS CHARMING MAN”. One of the title tracks off the mixtape also took a cue from the same band with a song called “HUM DRUM” which channels MORRISSEY’S lyric…”hum drum town”.
anyways…i’m rambling with pointless nerdiness.

also, the cover reference was inspired by ELVIS COSTELLO! despite the fact that i’m normally a weary of excessive borrowing, this kid already has me excited. i love the sound! and he needs a video (eh em).
