on SEPTEMBER 11th, 2009…i spent the day hanging with good friends and celebrating life at my FRIDAY night party at SANTOS with QTIP and RICH MEDINA.

that date has been a sore spot in every new yorkers heart and i find it very cathartic to spend time with the people i love in the city that is my true love.

*what did i tell you?! CHAD told me he was in the DJ booth. i walked up there to see for myself and low and behold – he was there…bopping to the beat. Right in front of him was Q TIP. i asked TIP, “you know AL SHARPTON is here?” he said “where?” i said “right behind you bro!” it was so amazing.

it’s been a few days, but i know we are still sad about MJ’s passing. friday night, THE OPEN PARTY dedicated the sound waves to our recently departed “KING OF POP”. i think the best way to honor someone’s memory is to celebrate their lives and so we did! the crowd was extremely ecstatic in celebrating all the hits this man cranked out. i normally don’t dance…but, had no choice when i heard the music.

he was the first photographer who really introduced me into the world of the muse/photographer. we met while working retail at STUSSY in 2001. man, those were the days. he started with a few flicks at work and then made his way into the studio with me soon after.

it was a rainy night, but we still had a good turnout. the crowd has been looking close to normal, which for us means – the most eclectic bunch of people! i’ve never been the type to feel comfortable in spaces where everyone looks the same, i’m sure you guys know what i mean.

i’m a jaded american. i’ve been numb for years after witnessing horrors with the system in this country. of course, i LOVE this place and it’s people. no, we don’t suffer as badly as others around the world and at the end of the day we all live somewhat comfortably…BUT, we can do better.

having said that, i am so so so very excited about BARACK (and MICHELLE).

last night my hope was restored.

i sobbed watching his speech in a room with loved ones and strangers…we hugged and danced all night. it was historical and momentous. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. when we found out he won, you could have told me unicorns were flying through the East Village and i would have believed you!

we have a black president!!! a black family in the white house. we have a major political figure that looks like you or someone you know. he’s white and black, he represents america! and besides the color of his skin, he’s a beacon of hope and goodness…someone worthy of believing in.

PREDICTION: many a baby will be born in 9 months! last night was the equivalent of New Years. People were in the mood for celebrating and loving which sometimes leads to lovin’!

so, GAVIN at NIKE asked me to be apart of their new NIKE TECH PACK piece for the new line. they photographed and interviewed young artists from around the world…and posted it (to my dismay) on youtube. there are some dope people up there, including P ROD…he’s so dreamy!

thanks to GAVIN for giving me the opportunity. it was fun and they sent me some dope kicks as well as a framed picture of me looking like an angry refugee–haha.
