Sitting between the shelves of your grandparent’s record collection, you may find an old record of Tom Petty’s. It’s covered in dust, but trust us, the record is still good. Since 1970, Tom Petty has made a stride in rock and roll giving us classics like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Long after Dark. Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers broke several hearts for sure in their time, but ours broke this past Sunday when he was discovered unconscious in his home.
According to sources, Petty was found not breathing and in full cardiac arrest in his home. He was rushed to hospital and place on life support. EMTs were luckily able to find a pulse upon arrival, but the hospital found no brain activity when he arrived to the hospital. A decision was made to pull life support.
Tony Dimitriades, his long-time manager and friend confirmed his death.
“On behalf of the Tom Petty family, we are devastated to announce the untimely death of of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty. He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived. He died peacefully at 8:40 p.m. PT surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends,” Dimitriades wrote.
Today, we celebrate life with the best of Tom Petty
