Jamaica’s fast rising singer, Lila Iké, just released a visual for her fourth and latest single “Where I’m Coming From”. She’s one of the freshest new voices on the scene and the latest addition to In.Digg.Nation Collective, a record label and talent pool for Jamaican creatives started by reggae star Protoje. The song has her voice floating on an ultra modern reggae trap beat as she describes navigating and championing her way in the music industry to success. Iké is making waves not only in her hometown but abroad as well with her magnetic voice and old-school sensibilities. She recently made an epic entrance in NYC on Protoje’s set at BRIC’s Celebrate Brooklyn! concert. Over 5000 fans roared to the sounds of her performance at the show at Prospect Park. She’s also set to be performing at some of reggae’s premier music festivals in Europe for July and August.
“The song and music video for ‘Where I’m Coming From’ means a lot to me. I finally had an opportunity to summarize my story thus far and involve the people who have been, and still are, a part of my journey. The video starts with a scene in Kingston, in the bedroom that I actually lived in when I first moved to the capital. It then follows me as I take a road trip back to my hometown in Christiana, Manchester (Jamaica). I’m greeted by all my family and friends, a sort of homecoming vibes. The reception was overwhelming! It was a whole vibe! I’m excited to share my journey and my people with the world,” Lila Iké explains.
In the video for “Where I’m Coming From”, Iké takes us on a vibrant walk through her significant stomping grounds in Jamaica. Throughout the video she reflects on her journey thus far, acknowledging her humble beginnings and gives thanks for the blessings and lessons she’s received. The scenes include her family home, her mother’s shop, a small bedroom she once rented and her being surrounded by a celebratory community of friends and family who’ve always been by her side. This is a visual representation of how Lila Iké’s light shines through humility, integrity, honour, courage and strength from her roots to her music career.
