#VegeterianEats: Superiority Burger

Superiority Burger has been on my list of places to try for about a month now. To make matters worse, I have been checking out their Instagram for about a week and a half. By the way their Instagram is very cool, not only does it show you the food on their menu but also a behind the scenes look at how they create some of their menu items. After a not so great day at work, I decided to treat myself yesterday. Who doesn’t need a burger after a crappy day at work? Superiority Burger is located in the East Village on East 9th street. As I walked down the street, I realized Superiority Burger wasn’t going to be easy to spot on this shit littered with other businesses. Although, my phone kept telling me Superiority Burger was on my right I was sure I was going to pass it. There isn’t any big awning or neon lights to grab your attention just a very minimal sign at the top.

Getting inside, I realized how small the place was. There really isn’t much sitting room inside Superiority Burger, which is fine especially since they model themselves as a fast food place. I looked at the menu hanging off the side of the wall trying to make up my mind before it was my turn to order. I settled on the Superiority Burger, it seemed the most familiar to me. The woman working the register then suggested I get a side to go along with my burger, there was no French fries on the menu so I opted to what was familiar once again; the salad. Less than ten minutes I was walking out with my small bag of salad and a burger.

Tahini Ranch Romaine Salad

Immediately after getting home I began to unwrap my food. Much to my disappoint I realized how small the burger was. I was expecting something that would require at least two hands to eat, but the burger was the size of a slider. I decided to eat the salad first since I wasn’t too excited about it. The Tahini Ranch Romaine Salad has Romaine lettuce, onion, bits of cauliflower and cucumber. The salad is little wet in a very tangy and tart mixture but then there are spot of this tahini and ranch sauce. As a vegetarian I am not a big salad person but I could not stop eating this salad. It was fun, light, flavorful, and refreshing.

Superiority Burger

After saving the best for last, it was time to enjoy my burger. My burger came with Muenster cheese, iceberg lettuce, tomato, and dill pickle. After getting over how small the burger was I realized the “patty” was very thick. Immediately, after my first bite I was in heaven. The flavors meshed well together, the “patty” wasn’t dry and had texture, and also there was good ketchup like sauce on the burger that held everything together. Halfway through eating I started to get mad at myself for not getting two. The burger may have been simple but it definitely is not forgetful. A huge part of me wishes Superiority Burger were closer to my job so I could indulge whenever I wanted to.

Aside from making vegetarian fast food, Superiority also caters to vegans. To make them even cooler Superiority Burger also makes their own sorbet and gelato with flavors changing from day to day. I’ve had plenty of veggie burgers in my time as a vegetarian but Superiority Burger is definitely in my top two. Despite the short train ride I’ll definitely be going back!
