Woman Crushin’ It Wednesday: Zoë Kravitz

The product of two incredibly obsession-worthy parents, Lenny Kravitz & Lisa Bonet, Zoë Kravitz consistently maintains a buzz within the entertainment industry as she wears as many hats as her father. With parents as cool as hers, it’s hard to not follow in their footsteps. She has made her mark in virtually every field, including fashion, music, TV, and film, with no sign of limiting her resume.

With or without makeup, it’s impossible to ignore the young starlets’ glow. With seemingly little to no effort, Zoë pulls off breathtaking looks, giving life to the phrase, “fashion forward.” Admittedly a bit of a free-spirited nerd, her beauty extends beyond the physical. Her dedication to spreading positivity and willingness to be both innovative and forward thinking in dress and action are palpable through all facets of her work as a creative. In staying true to her individuality aesthetically, she is able to captivate and influence a generation of admirers with her efforts to live honestly, raise awareness on social injustice, and improve the quality of life of others.

“Beauty is when you can appreciate yourself. When you love yourself, that’s when you’re most beautiful.”

In music, she performs with her band under the name Lolawolf, creating alternative tunes that are as difficult to categorize as herself. Perhaps due to her reputation as a ‘cool/artsy girl,’  her debut EP, Everyfuckinday, received a hefty amount of exposure and an immense amount of positive feedback from first-time listeners.

Zoë continues to push sociopolitical boundaries by utilizing her racial ambiguity to land major roles in popular TV shows and films. Most recently, she took on the roll of Bonnie Carlson in HBO’s Big Little Lies (check out the trailer here). What may have otherwise been portrayed by a white actress, Zoë tackles the acutely controversial role of a laid back wife in the wealthy suburbs of Monterey, California. Despite the seemingly color-blind approach in the series, Zoë’s role further emphasizes the importance of diversification and equality in the media, as well as the need to normalize women of color in such positions.

With much more in store for the noteworthy babe, we’re grateful for her contributions to the culture as a multi-hyphenate melanin goddess!
