Flashback: Sex And The City’s Carrie Bradshaw

In 1998 the first episode of the romantic/comedic television series Sex And The City aired. The show is set in New York City and follows the life of narrator Carrie Bradshaw played by Sarah Jessica Parker and her three best friends. Carrie is a columnist for a New York newspaper and writes weekly articles tailored to her current life adventure.

The iconic character and show is one of the few authentic and real representations of New York City. The show is the epitome of sexy as the girls juggle relationships with different guys all on a quest to find true love. They go through a lot of trial and error resulting in conclusions that either romance is dead or something is wrong with them. Let’s be real, we all aspire to be like the fashion forward Carrie Bradshaw, so clearly she isn’t the problem.

Carrie was a huge advocate for love, but she was even bigger advocate for shoes. Her styles will go down in history. Everyone wanted to dress like Carrie, regardless of whether or not we could afford Manolo Blahnik. She always said, “I like my money right where I can see it… Hanging in my closet.” She wore designer to grab groceries and didn’t mind eating at McDonald’s in a gown. Her friends never judged her, so if any guy she was dating dared to, he got the boot! It’s a non negotiable. Carrie taught us life lessons on style, friendship, sex, and most importantly how to survive in the concrete jungle. Just like any other New Yorker, no matter how many complaints we have, there’s nowhere else we’d rather be.

Some of Carrie’s most memorable quotes:

“I will never be the woman with the perfect hair, who can wear white and not spill on it.”

“They say nothing lasts forever: dreams change, trends come and go, but friendships never go out of style.”

“Don’t forget to fall in love with yourself first.”

“Women come to New York for the two L’s. Labels and love.”

“When I first moved to New York I bought VOGUE instead of dinner. I just felt it fed me more.”
