From working at Starbucks and rapping within the realms of Myspace and Tumblr with Odd Future, to being in charge of his own Golf fashion line/media, running Camp Flognaw, and smelling like Chanel, Tyler, The Creator might one of the most innovative artists of our generation.
Almost 10 years ago, we were exposed to a collective which built up a cult following through creating great music, doing hood rat sh**, and genuinely being themselves. In 2009, Tyler released his first mixtape, Bastard, in which he gave us a visual for “VCR Wheels” and taught us that Tina needs to perm her f*cking weave. Following his first project, Tyler went on to create/produce four albums along with contributions from Odd Future including: Goblin(2011), 12 Odd Future Songs (2011), The OF Tape Vol. 2 (2012), Wolf(2013), and Cherry Bomb(2015). While going on to work with artists like Pharrell, Roy Ayers, Kanye West, Charlie Wilson, and Boyz II Men’s Wanya Morris, he also managed to direct one of the best shows from Adult Swim, Loiter Squad— alongside other Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All members. The summer of 2016 brought along Tyler’s inspirational and innovative runway show for the debut of his Golf fashion line. This branch of art confirmed Tyler’s thinking level as the definition of ‘out of the box’ and that everyone’s dream is possible.
Post-show success, Tyler went on tour with his equally stylish friend A$AP Rocky, and has been working on the Cherry Bomb documentary–which we’ll continue to wait on with patience. Needless to say, at twenty-five, he continues to do dope sh*t for our generation by flourishing in his own element. To celebrate his success, it’s only appropriate to play the classic happy birthday clip from Loiter Squad as well as the epitome of his success, Golf.
Happy birthday to a genius, Felicia Da Goat!
