#WorldMusicWednesday: Rosalía The Postmodern Flamenco Popstar

With her postmodern flamenco pop, Spanish singer-songwriter, Rosalía is taking over the global music scene.  In 2017 she came out with her debut album  “Los Ángeles” which she collaborated with producer, musician Raül Refree. After releasing several singles since then, last year she dropped her sophomore album “El Mal Querer” which won two Latin Grammys for “Best Alternative Song” and “Best Fusion/Urban Performance”. If you’ve been watching HBO’s teen drama series “Euphoria”, executive produced by Drake and his DJ Future, you may have heard her song “Malamente” in the tracklist of Episode 5.  She’s collaborated with megastars such as J Balvin on “Con Altura, James Blake on “Barefoot In The Park” and Pharrell Williams with a new soon to be released track.

In recent weeks she released a music bundle and video titled “Fuck Money Man” featuring two tracks “Milionària” and “Dio$ No$ Libre Del Dinero.”  The songs are a juxtaposition as “Milionària” discusses how she’s got dollar signs on her mind, jet setting and celebrates everyday like it’s her birthday.  While, “Dio$ No$ Libre Del Dinero” which translates too  “God Free Us From the Money” is where she discuses presidents, poison and millions burning.  This Catalonia singer is becoming a serious movement beyond Spain and internationally.
