Not too long ago, we made our WCW, model, stylist, and designer Aleali May. Not only did we adore her for her tomboy inspired looks and street-wear style and grace, but we also fell head over heels for the Jordan 6 she designed and covered in millennial pink. If you peeped the news about the highly desired sneaker, you know that the Jordan was not publicly distributed but was only given to selected friends and family of Aleali. Luckily for us, Christmas came early.
"She was the new breed. She had to have the same thing Uncle G had so if I went and got some shoes, she had shoes." -Uncle G In honor of my family and the release of the Air Jordan 1, I headed home to style my shoe and shoot my Uncle G, @verniya_charie and I, with legendary LA photographer @estevanoriol at my Granny's house. Recently our former WCW collabed with Nike to revisit her California Love and her ultimate admiration for Jumpman 23 to release her Aleali May (Shadow Satin). Air Jordan 1 High. From rocking her kicks in Catholic school and picking up her Jordans with her uncle (who she recently got to style and shoot wearing her latest sneaker release) at the Slauson Swap Meet of South Central to having her own sneaker on the shelves available to the public. The pop-up for the release officially took place at Undefeated in South La Brea, California, accommodated by plenty of people ready to cop the sneaker, sounds by DJ John John, many friends and family of May, and even special guests like Don C. Ironically so, Vashtie made history back in 2010 as being the first ever female to design a sneaker for Jumpman with her Air Jordan Retro 2’s and now fast forward to 2017, the girl power in a world full of sneakers thankfully continues to thrive and allow ill females to step in to shake sh*t up. This makes Aleali May the second female in sneaker history to ever collaborate with Air Jordan.
If you didn’t have the chance to stop by the event, don’t worry because we got you. Peep the recap video launched by Jumpman 23 and Revolt TV, captured by the very talented director David Wept. Be sure to check with your local retailers for the locations of the ill sneaker and check out the recap video below:
