The glow up Cardi B exudes is not one to ignore. After solidifying herself as a social media powerhouse and fashion muse, the breakout star from the Bronx, NY just signed a multi-million dollar deal with Atlantic Records. She now joins fellow label mates: A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Kehlani, Curren$y, Missy Elliot and Ty Dolla $ign–to name a few.
According to The Jasmine Brand, a source from Atlantic says that Cardi “wants to focus on music and be taken serious. It’s hard for her to do that with all the drama she’s involved in on the show.” For anyone who follows Cardi B via Instagram, the story shouldn’t come as a surprise. The new signee has been hinting at her departure from the show Love and Hip Hop: New York for months and recently made an appearance on BET’s scripted series Being Mary Jane.
In a world where some women turn to stripping as a tool for survival, Cardi B continues to remind everyone that she’s a force to watch –despite what you may think of her troubled past and explicit content.
“A lot of people think I’m just a dumb ass, like, hoe ass bitch because I can’t talk English properly and it’s just, like, yo if I was dumb, I would not be in the position that I’m in,” she says. “It’s just like damn everybody wanna be famous but, like, people don’t realize being famous don’t make you like rich. Like, yo you really gotta work to get rich.” – Cardi B, The Fader
As her charismatic, boogie down Bronx demeanor continues to light up the entertainment world, the 24 year old is a reminder that vernacular has nothing to do with intellect. Cardi B is a businesswoman, securing the bag one deal at a time. Her single “Lick” feat. Offset from her new mixtape Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 2. has gained nothing but social media likes, Youtube views and a song to ride out to.
Cardi’s follow up became internet sensation “Bodak Yellow” which is a catchy freestyle to rapper Kodak Black’s flow on No Flockin’. The borrowed flow turned into a hot track allowing all of her fans to continue to make “Money Moves.”
From here, the only way the New York rapper can go is up. We’re keeping our eye on Cardi B as she can quickly become the new “queen” of rap.
