As of lately, all things music and fashion have been releasing ! As we all know, most rappers who want to have longevity or a lasting impression on the culture never just stick to music. They’re they wanna get into things don’t just stick to rapping. Often to extend their audience and/or show off their other talents, artists (especially rappers) make it their job to get their hands on things like tv/movie roles, fashion, real-estate , restaurants, and as of recently, their own sneakers. Recently rappers that we adore for having their own style inside and outside the studio have made a way to bring that same energy into publicly accessible sneakers. Here are some rappers who have sneakers that are on the way to shelve near you between now the rest of 2018:
Last week, 2 Chainz holding a prototype of his Versace sneaker made wave. We all know that the Atlanta-based rapper doesn’t only have his show Most Expensivest on Viceland, but he also own his own the Escobar Restaurant and Tapas in Atlanta, and his CEO Millionaires clothing brand. Aside from running his businesses Versace , we know that 2 Chainz enjoys his share of luxury threads, especially Versace. Last week, a picture of Chainz holding a Versace sneaker made wave. The depth of that picture was actually a sneak peak of what the ATL artist might be one of his favorite. but now he’s jumping into the position to create a sneaker for Versace during FW18. The finalized creation of the sneaker surfaced Tuesday in which a lot of people are excited about. The sneaker consists of an avant-garde look in which features a high white- platform sole, a cheetah-print design, a black-suede toe-tip, and red/orange lace dotted in the color yellow, a chain logo on the tongue of the sneaker, and a drippy zebra print and Medusa’s head amongst the heel counter. Along with this style, his Chain Reaction Versace sneaker will also have a second choice of a green and yellow silhouette and are both scheduled to release to local retailers by March.
Next we have cozy rapper A$AP Rocky. In addition to the anticipation for him to drop his solo album already, Rocky recently teamed up with Under Armour to release a sneaker that exudes his refreshing style and luxury taste. This is not Rocky’s first time collaborating with Under Armour, as he has worked with them previous to this and it’s possibly a sample of a sneaker that was curated at an earlier time before now by the rapper. As most know, this is not Rocky’s first door into fashion. He’s worked with Guess, Jeremy Scott and Adidas, J.W Anderson, and many more. Rocky’s AWGE brand signed partnership with Under Armour last September and luckily we’ll be able to see his creation with the sports-wear company on the shelves within this Spring/Sumer season .
Travis Scott has been no stranger the season with his sneaker collaborations. Back in December caused much talk with not only his Huncho Jack collaborative album with Quavo but the rapper also caused just as much talk with his release of his Travis Scott Air Force 1’s release with interchangeable swooshes. Along with his Air Force being a must op for many, Travis recently curated some Levi Air Jordan 4’s that consists of a Air Jordan 4 silhouette made out of dark denim. The sneaker dropped this Wednesday for $225. Retailers for the sneaker included NY’s Kith, Pusha T’s store based in Norfolk, Virginia called Creme, Undefeated in LA, Levi’s in NY, and many more locations you can check out for the newly released sneaker here.
Joey Badass has been on the move lately. Along with announcing that he would be starting a new podcast that would cover music, politics, spirituality, and more called “47 minutes” in which will air through Tidal. Along with Joey orchestrating dope content and conversation for the culture, Joey also announced late last year that he is the first creative director of Pony (a brand that was established in New York City back in 1972 who’s collaborated with brands from DKNY to Colette to Barney’s.) Last fall, Joey released his “Topstar” sneaker that released in color ways like red, green, and yellow. This upcoming February however, Joey will be releasing his sneaker in a Burgundy color way that will more than likely be available at Urban Outfitters (their site as well) and pony.com. This is definitely an exciting time for Joey. The Flatbush rapper who’s rap sheet speaks for itself gets to endorse a sneaker that’s always been loyal to a place where he was born and raised. To say the least, this is only the beginning for Joey so keep your third eye open.
Flower boy Tyler The Creator (who recently hopped on Kali Uchis’s “After The Storm” with Bootsy Collins) is set to release his Golf Le Fleur Converse in multiple color-ways from geranium pink to a Lilly green and even turquoise versions of the Converse on January 18th. People that have recently raved about the sneaker include Vashtie herself, and even Kanye West’s barber and friend Ibn Japser. The Converse is set to be available at Golf Wang’s flagship store, on it’s site, and in various Converse locations.
Last but not least, we have Kung-Fu Kenny/Compton’s only Kendrick Lamar. On top of Kendrick putting out one of the best albums of 2017 (DAMN), he’s also releasing a Cortez sneaker that’s keeping the same energy of the album. Cortez Kenny is officially a thing and it’s exciting. The sneaker was introduced by Nike as well as by the streets of LA back in 1972 . Not only has the sneaker grown to be loved by the people of LA but the sneaker has grown to be loved by the world for over 40 years. The Cortez will always remain a classic but a Cali sneaker endorsed by a conscious rapper of our time who’s from Compton, California himself ? This is definitely a collaboration for the books. Cortez Kenny will be dropping on Jan wary 26th but if you want to stay notified on the drop, be sure to head to Nike here and click “notify.”
