For all the nostalgic 90’s babies, there’s some great news on the horizon! The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air might be getting a reboot! The sitcom, which ran from 1990 to 1996, may just be joining the ranks of shows like Full House, That’s So Raven, and Boy Meets World to be re-imagined for today’s audience!
In today’s version, the Fresh Prince would now be a Fresh Princess! Though there is no confirmation on whether Will Smith will be involved himself, the reboot is said to channel the same fun and carefree vibes that we loved so much from the original Fresh Prince.
Over the past few years, many of our favorite 90’s sitcoms have been rumored to be receiving a reboot. It’s a lucrative choice for networks to bring back shows from the past because they already have an established fan base, and millennials have proven to be some of TV’s most passionate fans. When producers are weighing whether to invest in a new series or remake an old one, the allure of an already committed audience is simply too hard to resist! Although many people love the thought of their favorite show coming back to television, there are some who feel as though the past should be left in the past. With all of the new talented writers and actors today, why not create something new for us to look back at in 20 years and feel that same nostalgia?
It’s pretty safe to say that the 90’s was a golden age for a lot of us, and its aesthetic, music, slang, and even television shows/movies will always be near and dear to our hearts. But are networks going too far by rebooting every show that we once loved? Should that same creative energy be put into something completely new? Let us know your opinion below, and if you’ll be tuning in to The Fresh Prince’s reboot series!
