Marvel is on their way to making Guardians of the Galaxy a household name.
Our favorite guardians pack enough punch keep our appetites whet for their next installment, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Thanks to the genius of director and writer, James Gunn, it’s hard not grin as the sequel’s second teaser trailer rolls. It’s as if we’re being reunited with old friends. Drax, Star Lord, Gamora and Rocket Raccoon boast the action and character development we love. But it’s Baby Groot who steals the show in this newest trailer.
In a scene with Rocket Raccoon, we see him repeating the directions he was just given, in what can’t be denied as the most adorable tiny voice ever. Fans are also curious as to how much Baby Groot will grow. Will he stay miniature during the journey to find Star-Lord’s long lost Father (Kurt Russell)? Or will he grow quicker than we thought?
Also noteworthy, is Drax’s epic burn at Star Lord. His thunderous laugh and child-like teasing is definitely comedic gold.
Good laughs aren’t the only thing in store. Chris Pratt has communicated the depth of emotion Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 will dive into–in particular the connection between Star-Lord and his Father. The storyline hit close to home as Pratt lost his father in 2014 while shooting Jurassic Park.
“The truth is I ripped open some wounds that had been healing for some time,” he told British GQ. “And I didn’t want to. But I knew it was right for the moment. … There are wounds that are never going to be totally healed. It would probably make for a better story if it was some emotional thing that I hadn’t dealt with. When we face the death of a parent, you sometimes feel regret that you didn’t fully embrace what you had.”
Should we even mention the Easter Eggs and nods of homage at various comic mythos? There are space ships chasing Star-Lord’s fighter jet a la Galaga–the 80s arcade game Tony Stark referenced in The Avengers. The tentacled space terror, The Abilisk, makes an appearance and also clues us in on what the guardians have been up to since defeating Ronan the Accuser. Mantis, the two antennae alien, is introduced to us. Baby Groot is in charge of planting an Atomic Bomb for an imperative mission.”Fox on the Run” by Sweet plays as an immaculate soundbyte from Star-Lord’s “Awesome Mix Vol.2.”
And last but not least, there’s this:
Another bad ass iconic scene of one of Marvel’s best duos.
Very reminiscent of this, isn’t it?
