If you’re a fan of the Spike Lee classic Crooklyn, you may recognize the intro to Ab-Soul’s “Threatening Nature.” The stories main charcter Troy, played by Zelda Harris, recites the words during a scene in the film. Of course, Ab-Soul adds his own twist to the infamous bible song rapping:
Look, it go 1, 2, 3 (turn it up)/The Devil’s after me (little louder) 4, 5, 6, She’s always throwing sticks (yeah)/7, 8, 9, She misses every time (little louder)Hallelujah, hallelujah/Hallelujah, I’m more than a man
Soulo adds more of his lyrical flare to the record rapping about the lack of attention paid to sexism and questioning why herstory was never taught to him in grade school.
This ain’t a album, this an algorithm, yeah/We went from picking cotton for men in wigs and stockings/To liberation and renaissances, what is this nonsense?/And we don’t speak on sexism much as we really should/The black man could vote before the woman could
With a new holiday collection arriving for the label, TDE is on track for a successful 2017. Listen to the brand new record below and be on the lookout for Ab-Soul’s upcoming album December 9th.
