While the Grammys may have overlooked the tremendous year DJ Khaled has had, that isn’t putting a halt on the producer’s winning streak. As the biggest night in music wrapped up on Sunday, Khaled gifted fans with a star powered single titled “Shining.”
The glossy new single brings together Beyonce and Jay Z, for the first time since their 2013 collaborative effort “Drunk In Love”, rallying around Khaled’s triumphant mantras. “I worked my whole life for this one,” Khaled declares at the beginning of the song before Bey takes over.
As Queen B subdues the track, we get a taste of the Yonce we all love and adore with cheeky one-liners like “All of this winning, I been losing my mind.” Her husband, not one to be outdone, follows suit with a verse decorated with metaphors and some very subtle shade.
Yes, just when we assumed the days of Jay Z and Drake trading sneak disses were behind us, Hov had mince words for the ‘Views’ rapper: “I know you ain’t out here talkin’ numbers, right / I know you ain’t out here talkin’ summers, right / I know you ain’t walkin’ ’round talkin’ down / Sayin’ boss sh*t when you a runner, right?”
While the Internet has swiftly decided this is a jab at ‘The Boy,’ fans probably won’t have to wait long for the next volley in the war of words as both Jay Z and Drake are expected to drop projects this year.
Until then, check out “Shining” below.
