Kilo Kish has come out of a mini hiatus to give us a visual for her single,”Obsessing”, via Dazed and Confused Magazine. As an artist of many trades, including visual art, painting, and DJing, it was only natural that she gave the direction for this visual in collaboration with Elliot Sellers. This airy, synth heavy song carries the theme of being honest about her insecurities, including obsession with obsession. In the video, you will see a dapper Kilo Kish frantically running around a multiple level parking garage full of cars having a break down one second and laughing the next. Constantly on the top and bottom of the screen, you will see repetitive caption like phrases that shift every now and then, creating the sort of paranoia that is shown in the video; “Am I bugging or did the words just switch?”
“I’m kind of obsessed with this image of an individual malfunctioning, a cog in the flow of society, one walking the wrong way up the stairs during rush hour or whatever. Something not working perfectly well in its surroundings. Blending, but not exactly. Boring suit, boring parking garage and some girl (me) just exploding. So for this video, I was excited to play this game.” – Kilo Kish, Dazed and Confused
“Obsessing” is from Kilo Kish’s first studio album, Reflections in Real Time, released February of last year. This album is a testimony of her life between the ages of 23 and 24, having moved across country from Brooklyn to California. Looking at the album as a whole, it’s a raw confession packed with manifestations and mantras to keep her pushing through life.
Although “Navy” was her breakout single in 2012, Kilo Kish has collaborated with many, including Matt Martians from the Internet, fashion and record label Maison Kitsune, A$AP Ferg, SBTRKT, Childish Gambino and more. Kilo Kish will be touring with Vince Staples on their The Life Aquatic Tour set to kick off late February of this year.
