Nas is intertwining the holiday spirit with the fight to end mass incarceration this season. The Queens, NY native revealed that his new holiday sweater will be available via his clothing brand HSTRY. Proceeds from the sweaters that come in colors green, red and black will go towards the nonprofit organization Center for Court Innovation.
According to their website, the organization “seeks to help create a more effective and humane justice system.” The sweater is a nod to the revolutionary San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick who has been protesting the national anthem during this NFL season in light of police brutality. In a statement to the Huffington Post, Nas said that it’s important to fight against injustice:
“Colin Kaepernick recently took this powerful stance, and like him, we love America – but also cannot ignore the injustices we have been seeing and how important our fight is against them,”
Aside from Nas, rapper 2 Chainz is paying it forward with his “Dabbing Santa” merchandise as well that includes a pair of flip flops this year. A portion of the proceeds will continue to benefit his non-profit organization, T.R.U. (To Reassure U) Foundation .
