After a 20-year hiatus, A Tribe Called Quest has finally earned the number one album on Billboard 200 with their latest studio effort, We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service. The album was distributed via Epic Records and moved 135,000 album units within the first week of its release, Billboard reports.
The victory comes 20 years after A Tribe Called Quest’s last album Beats, Rhymes and Life took over the charts back in 1996 and is the longest number one album gap in Hip Hop history. According to Entertainment Weekly, Young Jeezy briefly broke the record weeks ago with his 2016 album Trap or Die 3, earning the number on spot on the Billboard 200 eight years after his last studio effort The Recession.
We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service is the group’s last studio album and is the first release from the hip-hop legends since the death of group member Phife Dawg.
