Women have long been overlooked by the sneaker industry. Female sneakerheads have been underserved by major brands who thought that a “shrink it and pink it” approach would resonate. So finding a diversity of styles and sizes to rival the mens’ section just didn’t happen. But 2018 might change that. At Paris Fashion Week, Nike announced that they will be launching a female-focused concept called Unlaced on March 27th. Thanks to the female sneakerheads who have been combating this sexist trend through speaking out to the press, launching organizations and their own lines, change seems to be near. As a tribute to their efforts, we wanted to highlight the women that have been leading the rallying cry for years.
This LA-native and designer’s popularity led to an ongoing collaboration with Reebok. Being Persian, she had to fight cultural norms to launch her namesake line. As a result, female empowerment is integral in the messaging of her brand. Now she hosts monthly Speaker Series at her Fairfax Avenue store to create a community that supports women.
This model and stylist has worked with Kendrick Lamar, Tinashe and Lil Yachty. She was the second woman to collaborate with Nike Jordan for the “Aleali May x Air Jordan 1,” which had its own pop-up shop in UNDEFEATED in LA.
Bediones started her career writing about sneaker culture for Complex and Finish Line. As her brand grew, she began consulting and added creative producer to her title. Most recently, she was tapped to design an Air Max 30 installation for Nike’s SNEAKEASY pop-up stop in Toronto.
Fitness blogger and consultant, she works exclusively with adidas and Finish Line on their content development. Her LA roots distinctly show through in her personal style, which is why she was selected as the California spokesperson for adidas BOOST the Nation charity campaign. This campaign features 50 designs that represent each of the 50 US states. All proceeds will go to Women Win.
Oberg started her career at Complex by hosting the video series Get Sweaty, where she interviewed celebrities like DJ Khaled, Ludacris and Cardi B. She went on to be the creative lead for Kith Women. She stepped down earlier this year to focus on the lifestyle brand that she founded, Sporty & Rich.

This womens’ footwear designer and illustrator has a feminine and whimsical approach to design. This led to designing a collection with Puma, which included an updated Duplex OG.
This writer, photographer and consultant is the current digital editor for Helmut Lang. She was sought out for the Vans x Marc Jacobs launch and the Nike Air Max campaign for its 30th anniversary.
Having the appropriate handle of @miniswoosh, this petite sneakerhead is the founder of London-based menswear label ALCH. She has worked with Young Thug, Little Dragon and Kendrick Lamar. She is an ongoing partner of Nike, participating in YOUTH by NikeLab in Shanghai.
Jazzy is a poet and writer who got her start at Kicks on Fire. She launched Run DMC’s adidas boutique. She founded God Bless the Fresh. And she wore the Nike SB Dunk High “De La Soul” to her wedding.

These women launched IncorpHERated, which exposes high school girls to male dominated fields. Their inaugural event, “Straight to Feet,” featured women in the sneaker industry. Their interactive workshop series features female designers, writers, marketers, strategists and influencers.
