DMV’s own and huge professional wrestling super-fan Wale appeared on ESPN’s First Take yesterday, with Lil’ Wayne in tow. The duo performed a new song “Running Back” slated to be the single from Wale’s yet to be released S.H.I.N.E. album.
The acronym for the album stands for Still Here Ignoring Negative Energy which is something I can 1000% relate to, it’s also something I preach to most of my close acquaintances. I have to say, I’ve been following Wale since his “Nike Boot” days and I’m happy to see him in this new stride of his career. Also, happy he’s been super vocal about his love for pro-wrestling and the culture within it.
His collaborative sneaker release with Asics and Villa were super impressive last year and I can’t lie, his vintage wrestling t-shirt collection just might rival my own. So salute to you Mr. Folarin. With that being said, I really appreciate the vintage The Undertaker t-shirt he had on while performing on First Take that’s a classic shirt that you more than likely will not find at a reasonable price if you’re on eBay digging for vintage wrestling shirt. The whole outfit was a winner too, which I appreciate because I am tired of seeing poorly put together outfits whilst wearing vintage wrestling tees. Vintage WWF tee with some Saint Laurent jeans and boots? That’s what I’m talking about!! That’s a good outfit right there.
Lastly, I should probably mention that this song is really good and features a really good verse from Lil’ Wayne. One of his best in quite a while. Looks like 2017 is about to be a good year for Wale and Weezy
P.S. I wonder if Wale watched Wresltle Kingdom 11 this morning. I need to try and catch that on pay-per-view ASAP.
