5 Winter Detox Soups to get you Through the Holiday Season

The holiday season can take a toll on what you eat and how you eat. From Thanksgiving to the various holidays in December, there is not much time in between for recovery from all the pot roast and happy hours you’ve fruitfully indulged in. No one really wants to hear that they should stop enjoying the delicious foods and drinks that come from the holidays, and it isn’t all that necessary. However, overtly stuffing yourself can have some unwanted health consequences that you want to avoid as much as possible. Health can be synonymous with proper consumption of foods and you want to be present in the choices you make when eating. When all that goes out the window however, try out some detox soups to replenish and recharge. Detox soups are a great way to rejuvenate the body and aid with metabolism, and boost the immune system (benefits can vary depending on the ingredients you choose). Here are 5 winter detox soups that will help you get through the holiday seasons from here on out.

1) Beet Detox Soup

This deep red recipe calls for the main ingredient of beet roots. Beets are known to boost the immune system, lower blood pressure, fight inflammation, and help in the detoxification process of the body making it perfect for when you want to restart.

2) Winter Detox Moroccan Sweet Potato Lentil Soup

If you need to add some spice to your detox, then this is the perfect recipe. Onions, pepper, and curry powder give this soup a warm kick that is perfect to offset the cold weather. In addition to being easy to cook, lentils can lower cholesterol, increase energy, and help with many digestive issues.

3) Broccoli and Pea Potage

This is another lentil soup that adds broccoli and peas. Broccoli has many anti-inflammatory benefits as well as helping to improve detoxification. Peas are high in fiber and helps blood sugar regulation.

4) Detox Veggie Soup

This recipe is excellent for potassium balance and restoring depleted acids thanks to ingredients like kale, tomatoes, zucchini, green beans, carrots, and avocado. The optional teff seeds are high in protein, low in sodium, and contains eight amino acids (so I wouldn’t skip it).

5) Spicy Green Soup

The last soup on the list gets its main benefits from spinach and celery. It’s hard to steer clear of a Popeye’s pun to explain the benefits of spinach for the muscles. But it can also protect the body from free radicals in the colon and help with up-keeping a healthy cardiovascular system. Celery is a great source of antioxidants and can help with dehydration due to its high water content.

Enjoy these recipes now or implement them into your New Year Resolutions. Either way, feel a little bit better about the third and fourth plate you went for at the last holiday function!
