Hot on the heels of celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Beastie Boys‘ first album, License to Ill, a Toronto producer named Coins, has played the role of mastermind by bringing together the intergalactic worlds of two musical behemoths.
The Parisian natives, Daft Punk, have their beats from songs like “Something About Us”, “Harder Better Faster Stronger” and “Alive”set as the foundation. While the Beastie Boys lay the lyrical charisma of “Pass The Mic”, “Intergalatic” and “Sure Shot”. There’s many other songs within the mashup, but we don’t want to give all of its magic away.
Each cut serves as a meeting of generations–both brilliant pioneers with the same occasional soundscape worthy of the flyest robot. And with the looming cloud of dreariness that’s been set over the world and America over the last few weeks, this batch of music is a beam of light. When it flips from track to track, you may feel something didn’t know you were capable of feeling at this moment in time.
That’s what music is all about.
That’s what makes an artist legendary.
The Beastie Boys will forever be timeless with an archive that cycles around to remain relevant. Daft Punk’s discography can’t be denied either.
So lay off the news and the media for a few minutes and press play.
You’ll be glad you did.
