Ben & Jerry’s Announces Support For #BlackLivesMatter Movement

Ben & Jerry’s is declaring their support for the Black Lives Matter movement one scoop at a time. The ice cream maker’s recent statement supporting BLM is so real you’ll want to go out and cheat on your diet.

On Thursday, October 6, the Vermont-based creamery took to Twitter to proclaim their solidarity:

Along with the “woke AF” tweet, Ben & Jerry’s gave a detailed breakdown of systemic and institutionalized racism, called for others to join their cause, and explained why the movement isn’t a threat to those not of color.

“Systemic and institutionalized racism are the defining civil rights and social justice issues of our time,” says the statement signed by Your Friends at Ben & Jerry’s. “We’ve come to understand that to be silent about the violence and threats to the lives and well-being of Black people is to be complicit in that violence and those threats.”

The Internet, of course, exploded into an uproar over the creamery’s stance with some even threatening to boycott the creators of iconic flavors such as Chunky Monkey, Rocky Road, and Americone Dream. Among the outcries of “reverse racism,” the hashtag #BenAndJerrysNewFlavor was spawned and Black Twitter naturally came through with enough jokes to turn this Monday into a Friday (or at least we hope so).

Take a look, below, at some of the best #BenAndJerrysNewFlavor tweets:
