Chance The Rapper was selected to pay homage to the legendary Muhammad Ali at Wednesday night’s ESPY’s. The award show, notoriously known for honoring the best in sports, paid tribute to the late boxer during their “In Memoriam” segment. The Chicago emcee performed alongside Jamila Woods, Donnie Trumpet and Peter Cottontale. The brand new song was a perfect send off to the greatest that is Ali, filled with lyrics that were much fitting for a beloved king.
Many that include Lil Wayne, Wale and Jamie Foxx have expressed their love and appreciation for Ali since his passing one month ago. The special tribute was just one of the phenomenal moments to happen during last night ESPYS. One other special moment includes the dialogue about race, policing and violence in America. Carmelo Anthony, Lebron James, Chris Paul and Dwayne Wade led the conversation during the opening of the award show, referencing Muhammad Ali’s legacy as one of the many reasons athletes should speak up and help put an end to the injustices that plague our communities.
