CULTURE: “Wonder Woman” Slays Comic-Con with Debut Film Trailer

Giving no time to recover from the gems dropped at this past week’s infamous San Diego Comic-Con, DC Comics and Warner Bros. unleashed the official trailer for upcoming film, Wonder Woman. And allow me to give you proper notice: it’s drool-worthy.

Clad in armor and equipped with both the “Lasso of Truth” and bulletproof bracelets, actress Gal Gadot reprises her role as the Amazon Princess, Diana Prince. The meat of the film’s plot is kept quite discrete, however, that doesn’t take away from the overall slayage of the 2:51 clip. There’s motorcycle stunts, Amazon army battles, explosions, stunning action sequences, unapologetic feminism, and Chris Pine. Need I say more?

Oh, and about the intertwined love story of the film: leave all cynicism at the door. Wonder Woman contains perfect amounts of both femininity and masculinity. The film’s director, Patty Jenkins, had this to say on the subject:

“She is fierce. I’m not worried about that. She’s also vulnerable, loving, falls in love, which is what we’ve always done to Superman. So that’s the thing that I cared the most about. It’s a universal story.

“In 1978, when Superman came out, that movie made me have an experience that I’ve never had before. I cried for Superman, I was Superman. It was the most powerful artistic experience I had as a child,” and she wanted to do that for Wonder Woman. Jenkins added, “It’s the best time in the world to make this movie.”

As we stand on the brink of a gender revolution, Jenkins’ statement couldn’t ring more true. So far, the trailer has received great applause in the fandom of comic films, proving that the ingredient of gender is secondary to substance quality. And this is just the beginning…additional doses of Wonder Woman were also teased in the ridiculously awesome Justice League trailer.

Geez. At the rate DC is moving, my summers will be gladly spent at the cinema.

Haven’t been blessed with chills from the buzz worthy trailer? No sweat. Press play below and let us know what you think.

Wonder Woman hits movie theaters around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers… and her true destiny.
