The Definition of Girl Power: Cardi B

The girl once viewed as a humorous stripper from Vine, Instagram and reality TV is now a woman of a different platform. This prideful rise to success, by rapper Cardi B, is what we call girl power. From the beginning, we fell in love with Cardi because she embraces the very things that make Cardi, Cardi. Last January, she did an interview with DJ Vlad where she discussed her body image and how stripping was her way of escaping abuse. Whether she’s talking about her sacrifices from the past, expressing her definition of beauty, or educating us in politics, Cardi B embodies girl power.

Back in February, it came as no surprise that Cardi showed up to multiple shows during New York Fashion Week with a slay for everyday. Following the LOOKS she gave us,  she walked the runway during Fabolous’ Summertime Shootout pop-up shop along with Dave East, Trey Songz, and Bernice Burgos. Just in time, the beauty released her mixtape Gangsta Bitch Music Volume 1–which has reached almost 2 million streams. In many interviews since the release, Cardi has expressed that at the end of the day she just wants to be respected. I think it’s safe to say that’s just the minimum of what’s she about.

Recently, the queen did a shoot with Elle where she discussed the power of a beat face versus a bare one. Whether she has makeup on or off, the starlet expressed:

“I think beautiful is like looking like you take care of yourself. I feel beautiful without makeup on, but when I do put makeup on, it just gives me this extra pop.”

Even though the message and visual were fabulous, Cardi didn’t stop there. Just days ago she posed in the new issue for Rolling Stone–which we’re definitely here for.

From the trenches of the Bronx, to taking over the realms of fashion, music, and entertainment, Cardi B embodies many things girls can draw motivation from. Whenever seeking your true confidence, remember: Cardi B wants you to love yourself, you can be anything you want to be because you’re always poppin’ in any shape, way, or form.
