Goldenvoice announced a massive lineup for their upcoming festival Lovers and Friends with headliners including Ms. Lauryn Hill, Usher, Jhene Aiko, and much more. However, some artists on the line-up claimed they were not booked for the show.
Mase asked to be taken off the lineup on Instagram. Twista claimed his direct deposit never hit but redacted his statement later in a comment saying “Locked and loaded playin all the hits ya diggg.” Lil Kim also posted on her IG story claiming that the festival was fake and said: “I am not a part of this.”
Snoop Dogg also chimed in as a booking agent calling out for Lil Kim to DM him and straighten out any confusion. Soulection’s Joe Kay confirmed on twitter that the festival was real and said, “everything we get behind is always official and locked in.” We reached out to Goldenvoice for comment and they said “Our festival is 100% confirmed. Lineups are always subject to change.”
Fans have expressed concern all over social media afraid that this could be a repeat of Fyre festival. A fake festival hosted by Ja-Rule that went viral and had two documentaries made about the scam. However, Goldenvoice has curated a number of shows, including Coachella. Yet, many festival-goers are expecting a similar experience to the mess that was Soulquarius.
Despite festivals becoming a hit or miss event, this line up is one of many that have brought 2000’s nostalgia to millennial adults. Although some artists have yet to release new music, fans flock at a chance to see their favorite childhood artists perform. Nelly, T-Pain, and Sean Paul are just a few great acts gracing the stage on May 9th at Dignity Health Sports Park. Tickets are available for pre-order and go on sale on February 21st at 10:00am.
