How Doug E. Fresh Is Changing Lives with ‘Hip Hop Public Health’

Whether we’re waking up in the morning, going to the gym, or trying to brush off our anxieties, we all utilize music for motivation. Thanks to founders like Doug E. Fresh, Olajide Williams, and Easy A.D Harris, that outlet is now assisting in creating lifestyle changes for the youth through the realms of Hip Hop and animation. Their New-York based non-profit organization, Hip Hop Public Health, is geared towards disadvantaged children–where taking steps toward advancement in major fields such as education and health is the number one priority.

The innovative group offers several programs from: “Hip Hop Stroke (Stroke Ain’t No Joke)” to “Hip Hop F.E.E.T (Finding Exercise Energy Thresholds),” Hip Hop P.O.P(Pouring On the Pounds), Hip Hop H.E.A.L.S(Healthy Eating and Living In Schools), and “Old S.C.H.O.O.L (Seniors Can Have Optimal Aging and Ongoing Longevity) Hip Hop.”

Since the program launched back in 2006, the organization has been responsible for partnering with celebrities like Jordin Sparks, Ashanti, Iman Shumpert, and even incorporating their movement within last year’s Essence festival. Most importantly, the foundation has impacted the lives of thousands of kids one beat at a time .
